Where to buy Linux Games?

Where can I buy games for Linux, for example Soldier of Fortune? Or do I have to compile it with wine?

Good question! Loki is gone, and I really wonder about this myself.

I think the best you could do is to check which games supply binaries for Linux on their CDs, like Unreal Tournament 2003, then buy the game.

Linux specific games are hard to come by in shops. Really hard. Anyone else care to shed some light on this?

I got Q2A for Linux at my local used bookstore of all places. They also had Heavy Gear II, but unfortunately I didn't get it.

Well, it was pretty chepa then, and sine Loki is out of business, I'll probably have to look hard for it. And then I bought the Windows version of HG2, and I don't think my parents would buy it again. They won't think it's justified that it's for a different OS.

I don't think there's such a thing as "the" Linux user. There are all kinds of different opinions on OpenSource software and reasons for using Linux.
For me it's nothing to be dogmatic about. Neverwinter Nights is a game I bought, for example. On the other hand, I appreciate everything Linux, KDE, ... do for me (or I wouldn't be posting here).

Following osknockout comment, I must say that I completely disagree with you and I must agree with cmboth as I have bought many new games that are available for Linux, i.e. Quake 1,2,3 , UT2K3, SOF, TuxRacer, NeverWinter, Decent 3, SimCity 3000 and others. One reason I buy them is to support the developers of those games a produce games on Linux! Also talking about not buying games I have bought many games that run on windows only and got them working on Linux using Transgaming, Wine, CrossOver, etc
Have a Look at my desktop image HERE. The only thing would be the icons are not the original once but I like it like that

Or you can download hundreds of free games from HERE

I am sure you will like to see the amount of games that is available to Linux.

Well, crossover, transgaming and wine are windows emulators so that you can install windows games or applications on to linux.

For Transgaming got to http://www.transgaming.com/
For CrossOver got to http://www.codeweavers.com/site/products/
For the Free Wine Emulator go to http://www.winehq.com/

For example I used Wine to install and configure Unreal Tournament 2004 Demo.
I have a simple explanation here http://www.gcclinux.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13 in how to install WineX (Transgaming) from cvs
Also the latest Wine software can be found at their office website shown above.

Good luck and if you have any more question regarding gaming on linux don’t hesitate in asking!

Thank I already have wine comes preinstalled on suselinux9.0
do you think is that enough, or do I have to download other one in order to work.

Your best bet is to constantly download the newest versions of Wine, since it is rapidly developing.

If you want to buy a very good version of Wine, WineX (www.transgaming.com) is a version of Wine aimed at gaming. I use CrossoverOffice (www.codeweavers.com) which is a version of Wine geared towards apps but has fantastic game support as well.

If possible ALWAYS play the native Linux version of games. Most newer games that are multiplayer-capable are being developed for Mac and Linux as well as Windows, you just need to do some hunting to find out how to fix this.

The one that comes installed in Suse 9.0 preaty good, as that is the one I used to play UT2K4 Demo and it works fine.

Although wineX (transgaming) is a professional wine emulator for games I did not managed to get the UT2K4 demo installed with the WineX an I do have installed the lastest WineX version that came out yesterday.
