Wallpaper only_k.jpg Question

My daughter and I are in disagreement as to wether the "only_k.jpg" wallpaper file was generated by computer or taken as a photograph of a real-life object.

I believe it is a real-life object because you can see the tiny stitches in the yellow fabric arround the edges, and because the textures look so much like a spray painted surface. I also see what appear to be the marks left by a milling machine as if the letters "Linux" were carved into the "K" with a milling machine.

My daughter believes the image was totally computer generated.

Can anyone at KDE.org confirm which of us is right?

Who made this wallpaper file? Did they take a photo or draw it in a paint program, or synthesize it with some kind of mathmatical graphics engine?

Is is fake or real?

Other opinions are also welcome! :?

only_k

Well, the image comment is this:

"Only K" - Created by Sven Müller <lightmaker AT web DOT de>

(I edited the email address in obvious places to make it less harvestable.)

So I guess if you really want to know how he made it, you could try mailing him.

I belive it was done in a 3d program. It may look real, but it probably isnt. If you dont belive a computer generated image can look so real, take a look at the gallery on the 3dsmax website or go watch 'The Day After Tommorow' much of that movie was rendered

Yes, I've been to this site many times, but I don't know what to do with the files I download - I haven't been able to find instructions anywhere. Can anyone suggest a basic tutorial, FAQ, or WIKI about KDE themes, styles, decorations, etc.?

There are "How to install" links on every content page, these are to be found at the right of the download links.
