[Kopete] Kopete versus Yahoo Messenger for Linux

Urrgh!

After installing and testing the new (crappy) Yahoo Messenger for Linux,
the kopete connection to Yaho fails.......... I can't login anymore.

I have SuSE 9,1 with Kopete 0.8.1 and KDE 3.2.1

So! Stay away from the Yahoo Messenger for now.

I think this has nothing to do with the fact that you have just installed the Yahoo software. By chance, you decided to install it on the day Yahoo launched a war on any software other than their own using their service ([url=http://news.zdnet.co.uk/communications/0,39020336,39158499,00.htm]ZDNet article[/url]).

As you point out,. the Linux client from Yahoo is junk. The people who, in their spare time, produce good Yahoo clients are rewarded like this.

[Kopete] Yahoo and the war of the worlds

Hmmm,

Yepp, coincidence - but that happens...

It's fairly logical for them to cut off Kopete after they released Yahoo
client for Linux... Even if it's junk, it gives linux users the possibility
to use Yahoo. Noone can blame them for locking us out now can they...

I hope there will be a fix for Kopete whithout to much hassle with
DMCA and EULA etc... I can't see the advantage for Yahoo to force us
to use their crappy client as most of us are not going to pay for yahoo nor
replacing the Linux boxes of ours with MS boxes...

I'm not going to have fiftyleven messengers installed and running so in
my case, Yahoo is now history...

But.... What do I know?!

Kopete is not the problem, its the fact that Yahoo is trying to block 3rd-Party-IM.

That explains my problems. The only question I have is what email address, web link, etc. do I use to yell at the yahoos at Yahoo! for breaking my preferred IM client?

Fixed in CVS. I'm in the process of getting patches out to the various distributions so that their packages can be fixed for the next time they update since there's not really a KDE 3.2.3 planned. If you want the patch, just shout.
