Kopete - incoming message text not visible in chat window

When someone sends me a message all I see in the chat window is the blue text that tells me someone sent a message and no message text. When I send a message I see the red text that says I sent a message and the text of the outgoing message, they recieve my message OK, its only the incoming message text I can't see. When I view the history I can see the incoming messages, so I know I'm receiving them. It seems the incoming message text is being sent directly to the history file and bypassing the chat window.

I'm running KDE 3.2.1 on Gentoo with Kopete 0.8.1 on AIM.

I checked the documentation and search around here and over at the Gentoo forums but couldn't find anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

check that you don't have funny settings configured with the texts - like transparency or a white text.

secondly, to see if you are recieving the message, try checking your history (enable the history plugin)

Yes, like I said in my first post it is showing up in history, that's why I think its being sent right to the history file, and bypassing the chat window. Also, when I send a message
I can see my outgoing text in the chat window. The only thing I can't see in the chat window is the incoming message text. Oh, one thing I forgot to mention is that the first incoming message shows up in the little window that pops up when someone tries to contact me.

I double checked the font colors, its set for white background and black fonts. The translucency setting is disabled.
