Disable message pane in Kmail

Hello forum

Why it's not possible to disable the message pane in Kmail?

Isn't it a problem, when I receive a spam mail and the spammer activated the option "acknowledgement of receipt", so that he can find out, if an email address is valid?

Or is Kmail otherwise secure, regarding to this problem?

Thanks for any reponse.

Best regards
Elmar

You would have to activate that in KMail's security settings.
It should be deactivated by default, but it won't harm to check :)

Be also sure to have the option about external references unchecked (deactivated).

They are both unchecked. So even if the sender would like to get confirmation, he didn't get it?

Thanks for your reply.

kmail preview pane

I would love to be able to remove this pane in Kmail, as I intensely dislike messages being shown as "read", when I have done no such thing. Of course, there are also security implications.

In my version of KMail (KDE 3.2) it's possible to remove the preview of the message content:
"Settings" -> "Configure KMail" -> "Look'n'Feel" -> Tab "Layout"
(Note: This is translated from German)

BTW: You can set a delay so that messages are not marked as read immediately when you select them in the message list.
