Kopete disconnects constantly

I updated to kopete 0.8b1 and every time I connect I then disconnect immediate after. It takes me like 5 tries to get on. Once I do get on, I get disconnected after any amount of time. This never happened on past versions, and right now I'm downgraded to .7.4 where nothing like this happens either. So I know it's kopete and not my interenet.

Anybody know how to fix this?

I assume you're talking about MSN.

0.8beta1 doesn't have a fix for an MSN protocol change. Use CVS or 0.7.4 if you want to use Kopete for MSN.

Nope ~ I only use AIM.

In that case, send us some debug output.

1) (if possible) Build kopete with debug output - use --enable-debug=full when configuring

2) turn on the AIM debug output at runtime - run
kdebugdialog (from kdesdk) and search for kopete, then turn on all the AIM debug streams

3) run Kopete from a Konsole and copy/paste the debug output when connecting, and when it is disconnected.

4) Mail the debug output to our mailing list at kopete-devel@kde.org

That will help us fix this.

I have a simlilar problem, but it happens with MSN and ICQ.

After some time I get disconnected, so the msn protocol icon becomes gray. The icq one shows like if I was away.

If I try to reconnect to msn, it doesn't work. With Icq, the icon changes to the online one, but from what I learned from friends, I wasn't still online.

The only things I can do is close Kopete and re-open it.

It happens randomly.

So we'll proceed in the same way.

To make isolating the bug(s) easier, since they are in 2 different IM systems, could you produce debug output as described above but separately for each protocol. That means back up your Kopete config from $KDEHOME and remove one of the accounts before producing a log.

Any update?

Just curious - it's been a month since these posts, and my Kopete (0.7.4) has just started doing this over the past few days.

I installed it when it first came out and haven't touched the config, so I'm surprised it's only just started happening.

This is happening with ICQ, MSN and Y! protocols.

Has anybody found out the reason or a solution to the problem?
