Jabber rules!

I'm surprised that you open source/standard people aren't more into Jabber. I setup a Jabber server the other day. I'm trying to get all of my friends on Jabber because some day these proprietary systems are going to pull a fast one on us all and it will cost $$, something I'm not willing to pay. I really like the decentralizedness (is that a word?) that Jabber provides, and it's XML. Kopete 0.6 works great with it too. Kudos to the Kopete team and it's already becoming a useable app!

Which do you guys prefer?
And what app do you use for it?

I Use lots of protocols but I use only one client and that is gaim, although I would use kopete if it supported yahoo protocol too.

I've been using Psi for a time now and find it works fine to keep me in touch with all of my friends on MSN, Yahoo, ICQ & Jabber. In particular I find the intergration with the system tray really nice!

PSI is really nice... But how do you use it for MSN?

I use Kopete for Jabber (and AIM). If Kopete had tabbed channels for IRC instead of separate windows I'd use it for that too, until then it's KsIRC.

ive been using kopete 0.72 for now, and it is really good for things such as MSN, where they have implemented the new msn9p protocol. if other clients dont support this v soon they will be blocked out of the msn client...

Unfortunately, ICQ isnt working for me...

I have also tried kmess and kmerlin, which are both pretty good for msn. kmerlin is v similar to kopete except it doesnt have the plugins (:() but it has a v nice interface i found.

where can i find psi?

I use Kopete for MSN and ICQ. Now that ICQ supports saving the contact list at the server it is slightly my favourite.

ICQ used to be my favourite, until the ICQLite client started comming with built in ads. I use Gaim at the moment, but I'll probably use Kopete next week.

I'm so glad only 11% use MSN ... well ... what!? ELEVEN? Eleven too much!

OK. I like ICQ, because it's nice to have such an "open" protocol -- "open" for everybody -- who wants to read my stuff ;-) well. No risk no fun!

Kopete is my choice. I've tried Gaim -- doesn't look good (IMHO). And trillian in the hostile OS (and with WINE), quite nice. But not as fast as Kopete is in Linux!
Expect the worst, it's the least you can do.

You can use a transport. So your jabber server will translate your jabber messages to msn blabla.
There is an option browse services in you psi-menu where you can configure that.

I use psi and jabber with the msn transport. But I'm now considering to switch to kopete
