They say that KDE is quite a bit further funcitonality-wise.
I haven't checked out GNOME in quite a while though.

KDE has DCOP.
You can talk to objects even from the command line.
Is there something comparable for GNOME's CORBA implementation?

I'm accustomed to the way KDE works and it does its job well.
It's reasonably stable for my work at home *and* at work.
GNOME was said to have some stability problems but
that has gotten better.
I have to admit that most of what I can say about GNOME
is hearsay though...

One thing I like about GNOME is its icon style,
there's just something about it..

Hehe. I thought the same thing. :-)
Being in a KDE forum the poll will hardly
come out as anything even remotely representative.

Besides I think that few users keep up to date
with both environments...

I use KDE, but I prefer the GNOME graphical user interface. KDE gui are cluttered, bulky, bulgy and unnatural. Especially, the the introduction of the keramic style. I wish to associated kde with the simple, sleek and slim approach to GUI design and engineering, but unfortunately, I can't.

However, KDE does outshine Gnome with regards to customizability, wealth of applications and interprocess/intercommunication application design and engineering. I use KDE because, although I loathe the KDE default theme, I have configured my desktop environment, to suite that of the simple, sleek and slim idealogy. KDE empowers us, the users, GNOME tries to.

I use KDE because I can set it up to look and work the way I want to.
If you don't like the look of something, change it!
Too clutered? Clean it up! Don't like the icon set? Install another one (http://www.kde-look.org)
Don't like what SCO is doing - let them know! (In more ways that one :))
