No sound in fedora core 2

I'm on FC2, Kernel 2.6.8-1.521 and KDE 3.2. On Gnome, I have sound, but I think Gnome looks ugly and has few functions I need ( ), so I use KDE. I can't get my sound to work at all. I got a nVidia nForce 2 based Chaintech Summit ATX mainboard, and an AMD Athlon XP Barton 2600+ ~1900MHz. I'm pretty much a n00b in Linux, but I think this is a common error. In any case, here is my lsmod | grep snd

[code:1]

[root@DaBlade root]# lsmod | grep snd
snd_pcm_oss 43129 0
snd_mixer_oss 14017 1 snd_pcm_oss
snd_intel8x0 30829 0

Do you already know the hints on this page?

I tried folllowing the guidelines there, but none of it helped. Both GAIM and XMMS are muted...:(
Also, in Alsamixer, the PCM level is stuck on the bottom. I was told that this may be the reason, but I dunno how to fix it.

open xmms, and select a different output, such as OSS or ALSA.

If one of these works, then your problem is with arts, else - its your soundcard config.

Dont use arts.
Start xmms or whatever you use with this command
killall artsd & xmms
