Sound not working after fresh kde install

Hi,

I've just installed Gentoo linux on my notebook and finished emerging kde. Everything seems to work fine, except for the sound. KDE Control center doesn't report any problems and it looks like arts is running fine too, but it just doesn't work and I'm too new to linux to have a clue what to do to fix it

Just a blind shot. Try running kmix and removing mutes or increasing the sound level.

Happened to me.

do you get output from any applications? try mpg123 to play an audio file.

I'm sorry, it turns out that alsa was misconfigured. I had some help and it's working fine now.

perhaps you would be kind enough to enlighten us on what the problem was, and how you resolved it?
