Mplayer not Working after Installing KDE3.1

I have upgraded my KDE3.0 to KDE3.1 and now my Mplayer does not work anymore everytime I open a file or a DVD it just freezes. I try to remove it and re-installe it again but i can't remove it as it says it's part of something so I can't even re-install it. :-(

In case by Mplayer you mean mplayer from http://www.mplayerhq.hu, the problem is that your old mplayer is linked to arts libraries, which have changed during upgrade resulting incompability.

You really should compile mplayer by yourself, using packages from example SuSE, will only give you a very crippled version of mplayer. If you need to use some binary packages, use the ones from mplayer's homepage.

Thank you both, I have managed to fix the problem when I re-compiled KDE3.1.1 and re-compided mplayer ontop to the new KDE, it works very well now.
