x-window cut and paste

I just upgraded to kde 3.3.1 on suse 9.1.

I am using a windows 98 pc running hummingbird exceed to access the linux box.

prior to the upgrade, X-window cut and paste worked fine using the left mouse button to select text and the middle mouse button to paste it.

Now the left button only highlights the text, it does not automatically load it into the X-windows clipboard. The middle mouse button brings up a menu box where you must click on Paste to move the text from the clipboard into the window.

This looks a lot like the way mswindows operates. I HATE IT.

I can't find anything in XF86config that is set wrong and I can't find anything in the KDE Control Center that looks like it is for changing how the cut and paste works.

Am I out of luck? Is this a kdm problem? Do I need to go back to using xdm?

Need some help and guidance.

thanks,

tim

For what you are saying the text still goes to clipboard when you select it. Because as you described if you choose Paste from the menu it will be pasted. Maybe the problem is in the shortcuts. Probably you have a binding for the middle mouse button and that is affecting the default X copy-paste behaviour.

Problem solved. I stopped and restarted linux and stopped and restarted windows and the exceed software.

The x-style cut and paste is now working. Something must have been munged during the upgrade and the x-client and x-server were not properly communicating.

I should have done this before posting. Oh well, live and learn I guess.

thanks,
