Registering a protocol

Hi guys.
How do I register a protocol so that when I click an ed2k link in Konqueror it passes the link to EDonley for downloading?

Cheers,
Phil.

You probably have to make a new filetype.

Open konqueror > Settings > Configure Konqueror

Then choose File Associations

Add a new file type, and select the application to be used as eDonkey.

Hope it works,
Seb

I tried that but it didn't work - I wasn't sure it would because it's not a file association as such. The ed2k:// links are in web pages...

okay, then maybe you can set a web shortcut to launch the program?

I am not sure if this will work, since eDonkey is an external application, but you can try. I also don't know how eDonkey works, if you are expecting an application to open, or to pass it into the application. The latter would be more difficult and you would need a script to do it for you.

Settings > Configure Konqueror > Web Shortcuts

Now, click New

Search Provider Name: eDonkey
Search URI: /usr/bin/eDonkey (or equivalent)
URI shortcuts: ed2k

Once again, I don't know if it will work, but try.

No, you need a .protocol file in KDEPREFIX/share/service.

Check the telnet.protocol file for example of a procotol handler hat executes a program.
