[EDIT] KDE 3.2 hangs at 2nd splash-icon

Quoted

Hello!

I just compiled KDE 3.2 with Konstruct on a Redhat 8 machine.
I installed it in ~/kde3.2 and set all variables as suggested...
When I startx, I see the "first-time-wizard" and then the splash screen on white background.
However, the second icon (System Services) flashes forever

I just found out, that it does not hang forever, just for about 15 mins. :?
Then KDE is up and running except for kicker, which does not respond...

Here is what I logged from startx to the point where it starts its 15 min pause:

Not sure if you are having the same problem, but a whole bunch of us are having problems with the kicker causing the system to hang. The only workaround I've found is turning off the kicker, which creates all sorts of inconveniences.

See this link:
http://www.kde-forum.org/viewtopic.php?t=2245

You might also want to vote for the bug so this problem, which seems to me quite serious, gets some attention.

Thanks.

Thx! I disabled kicker, startup didn't change so I now think that there might be no connection between the kicker-bug and the startup problem...
