DCOP failure upon running startx

I set up KDE using the root user, and got it configured to run and get all hardware and peripherals set up in XF86Config, but now when I try and run KDE I get a looping error message about the DCOP failing and the KDE wizard running time after time.

I'm running Gentoo with a 2.4.24 kernel on a 686 architechture. (I think that Kernel version is right, its definatly a 2.4 kernel) and its KDE 3.1

I've read the other DCOP posts, but I'm unable to fix the problem through what I've read. I'm sorry if this is a really easy problem or something that has been covered time and time again, but I'm pretty much a linux newbie.

Sorry, my post was very brief. Heres what I have:

in /home/username/.xsession-errors I have the message:

kdeinit: fork() failed!
: Resource temporarily unavailable
Mutex destroy failure: Device or resource busy
DCOP aborting call from 'kdesktop' to 'klauncher'
ERROR: ERROR 3: couldn't create slave : Can't talk to klauncher
DCOP aborting call from 'anonymous-3188' to 'kicker'
ERROR: Communication problem with kicker, it probably crashed.
startkde: Shutting down...
Warning: connect() failed: : Connection refused
Error: Can't contact kdeinit!

When I run startx, I get the xwindows console windows, but it won't continue on to kde. The center window has the error:

fork: resource temporarily unavailable.
could not start kdeinit.

I then get a kde skinned window popping up to tell me:

please check the "dcopserver" program is running

I don't know where the kde error logs would be, but if this isn't enough I will find them. Thanks for your time.
