Hi people,
i had got many problems installing the xFree86 4.3 rpm's from the suse site! actually now it is working, but, the behavior of kde or X is very strange. "something" is lagging the whole system/kde/desktop now! (example: every few seconds, the whole desktop freezes, the mouse-cursor doesn't move, the konqui-window holds on loading pages.)
but i didn't find out what is the reason for that, i think it's because of the xfree86 4.3 rpm's or because i still use the first KDE3.1 rpm's from ftp.kde.org.
Should i download and "upgrade" kde3.1 to the suse-rpm's from ftp.suse.com ? since, there is a "minor" package diffrence if i compare the build-number of the kde.org rpm's to the suse.com rpm's
ah, i also installed the qt rpm's that are located in the same directory like xfree86 4.3 on suse.com.
can anybody help me? anybody got same problems ?
Now, i can only use "MS Windows" again, because it is really nerving, the behavior of Kde/X. waaaah ;_;

yes, i also installed the qt-rpm's from SuSE, but the qt-rpm's located in the Xfree/qt/ folder.
if i have a time i will reinstall kde3.1 from suse's official kde-rpm's, maybe this will help.

i am using an ATI Rage Fury 128 , 32MB AGB (no TV-out ;_; )
hm, i downloaded xfree86_glx rpm's too, and also the compileable kernel-modules.. at 1st i installed the xf86-kernel modules, but 3d didn't work,
later i installed the rpm's, and it worked, but, with that strange behavior..
when i remark the "load glx" option in "XF86config", the system doesn't hang anymore, but, of course, without 3d :/

before i used the ATI graphics card, i used a nvidia RivaTnT card, and i also compiled the suse-kernel 2.4.19, and the nvidia-kernel-modules before. But, the older xfree (4.2) worked with the ati-card.

another thing is, when i run "3Ddiag", it always says, that the package xf86_glx is not installed. that's wrong, because these files are included in the package "xfree86_glx". though, 3d worked even without 3Ddiag (but with that strange system behavior).

(if i have a time later, i could post some strange error-messages, that i get if i am running 'startx' (well, kde is starting, and everything seems to work (very slow/system hangs)) ; the errors are also kde-related. maybe because of the font-problems, that also other people are discussing.)
