Force a password dialogue box for kpackage?

Hello All,

I'm new to Linux, but I've been trying to give myself a crash course (in distributions, at any rate) in the last couple of weeks. After about 14 different installs, I've chosen AltLinux Compact 2.3, which seems to run flawlessly on my laptop.

I seem to have created a flaw, however. This disto uses Synapsis as an rpm manager, and I don't like/can't get the hang of it. Instead, I downloaded and installed Kpackage, which I saw in one of the other distros.

It runs just fine when I am logged in as root. I "think" it runs when I am logged on as a user, as the hourglass goes round, the hard drive spins, etc. Since it requires root priveleges, I get the feeling it is running in the background, not getting root level access, and quitting. At any rate, my rpm packages are not opened or installed.

I've seen other programs which require root priveleges bring up a password dialogue box before running, prompting for the root password. How can I force Kpackage to do this? I don't mind entering the password every time, but I am trying to avoid doing it through a console. I'd rather just associate the rpm files with Kpackage and be prompted for the password.

I looked for the answer pretty extensively before posting, and hope that the question is not petty, stupid, or obvious; if so, I beg the indulgence of the forum. Otherwise, I anxiously look forward to a shower of wisdom and easy fixes! :P

Sorry for the long post, I just wanted to be thorough.

Your New Linux Friend/Former Winblows Slave,

hsking

Use Menu Editor. Change the command line to read "kdesu -- sudo kpackage ...". OR check the "run as a different user" box to run as root.
