KMail-gmail settings (wrong ports?)

EDIT: Incoming mail problem is solved after putting Konqueror's browser identification settings back to standard.
Still have mail in the Outbox that won't leave though

Using PC-BSD 1.5.1 and KDE 3.5 I try to get KMail working with gmail, but it's not working too good.
Here are the steps I undertook:
- in "identity" I put my name@gmail
- in accounts - send
name: gmail
server: smtp.gmail.com
port: 465 (this was advized by a friend in order to get gmail right in kmail)
server authentifcation marked
username: name@gmail.com
password..... save smtp password yes - clicked ok
I put safety on SSL and authentif.mode on PLAIN
- in accounts - receive
accountname: POP-account
username: name@gmail.com
server: pop.gmail.com
port: 995 (same remark as with send port)
save pop password
use SSL
flat text

The problem is that mail stays in the Post Out instead of getting to send it.
For receiving the problem is that I get mails in up to about July, and no more; always the error message SYS/TEMP reappears, and a message that contact with the server gmail was cut off.

Any ideas?
Thanks

Gmail settings

Gmail does not require smtp authentication using Kmail

SMTP General tab:
Name: your email name (do not use @gmail.com)
Host: smtp.gmail.com
Port: 465
Server requires authentication - leave UNCHECKED
SMTP Security tab: Use the Check what server supports button. It will say SSL/plain and automaticall put the correct port number in the port location in the General tab.
Be sure to click OK button when done with SMTP configuration.

POP settings:
General tab:
Account name: anything here. I use my email name. (name only)
Login: your email name@gmail.com
Passwrd: your gmail password
Host: pop.gmail.com
Port: 995
Store pop passwrd box checked
Include in manual mail box checked
Enable interval mail checking box checked
Extras tab:
Use check what server supports button. It will report back with SSL/Clear text and place the proper port number in the port box in the General tab.
Be sure to click OK when done.

Delete the email in your out box because they will not send because of the previous incorrect settings.

Example: sent a few minutes ago with my Gmail account set as default.

I am sorry I have not been able to locate where I found the info that states NO smtp authentication required. It was at Gmail's Website. As I have beenputting this info together for you I have searched off and on. If you send me email directly regarding this, I would be happy to forward the SMTP info when I can locate again. I think I rember book marking it, but I have not imported my previous book marks back into this new install of Kubuntu.

Hope this help you. I am not an expert Linux user. Have only been using Kubuntu for a few days installed on one of my older machines. So far I like it and it installed without any problems for me.
