KDE 3.5.7 kcmshell does not work in adminstration settings

I installed openSUSE 10.3 (new install) and I have a strange problem in KDE (3.5.7).

When I go to Personal Settings -> System Administration -> Login Manager,
I click on Administrator Mode than the window changes into "Loading" and a little window pops up
where I type the root-password. In this window is written:

"Please enter the administrator (root) password to continue.
command: /opt/kde3/bin/kcmshell kdm --embed 46140806 --lang en_US"

After entering the right password, the popupwindow disappears but the
window with the settings stays empty, except for the message "Loading..."

The same happens with Font Installer and Date & Time.

To investigate the problem, I opened a konsole and logged in as root.
Then I entered the command:

/opt/kde3/bin/kcmshell kdm

Then I got the requested window where I could change the admin settings for the login manager.

So, in the konsole it works OK, but not in Personal Settings -> System Administration -> Login Manager.

Does somebody recognize this error, or does anybody know how to solve this?

all administration settings as root are unaccessible

I think I have the same issue as you. However, I have it in all my efforts to access any administrator settings in KDE. The following is the one I am trying to get fixed. I need it so I can get my home network up

KDE 3.5.7 release 72.6
openSUSE 10.3

KDE > Internet & Network > File Sharing
Displays just fine.
However, when I select Administrator Mode and log in with my root password all I get is a blank screen with a red/burgandy border around the window.

I seem to remember last year when I was experimenting with OpenSUSE 10.2 that I had the same problem but if I remember correctly, it resolved itself when I increased the display resolution, but I am not positive about that.

Display is:
card is Intel 915 G (intel family)
Monitor: Dell M781s
1600x1200(UXGA) 16.7 Mio. [24bit]
3D acceleration is selected

Help with this will be greatly appreciated
