yea im a little confused about this too. as far as i can tell there is no way to manipulate ANY panels meaning you cannot create or remove them either. also iv seen pictures of kde4 with icons on the panel that launch apps. cant find those either. it looks cool though but im afraid to touch anything for fear of breaking it.

This is a very young kde, and was written from scratch. It's going to take a while for all the customization functionality to work its way in. This release seems mainly for early adopters who like to find bugs, and developers.

Best bet is to fall back to 3.x until 4.1 comes out.

I've got my apps on the task bar (panel) here is how to do it.

Just open the Menu, navigate to the app that you want on the taskbar (panel) eg Firefox, or Kopete, etc, right click on the app select 'add to panel' and voila! your apps icon will appear! Repeat for any other apps that you might want to include.

For example I have on my panel Adept, home folder, ksnapshot, Pidgin, Thunderbird, and Firefox. You can now access any app with one click on its icon.

is there a way to reorder the widgits on the panels. i accidently removed my taskbar in the live cd and i readded it and i couldnt get it to go back where it was after i put it onto the bar.

You have to alter the System Settings and how the comp starts after you have logged out.
So go to System Settings, then click on Advanced Tab, then click on Session Manager.
Change the 'On Login settings to 'Restore Manually Saved Session, then save this.
Now log out, restart comp and then see if your settings that you made are back again.
The session settings are at this point in time quite complicated and I still haven't sussed quite how they work as regards the Desktop settings that you set up.

Please post back and let me know if your panel icons returned as you had set them.

i was in the opensuse live cd of kde4 so when i restarted the computer it didnt matter. another weird thing i noticed was the zoom out zoom in. im using dual head so when one zooms out it shows both the desktops zoomed out on one monitor and the other stays normal. just kinda quirky. cant wait to see which directions kde4 moves in.

Yes, taskbar is really poor compared to 3.x... Huge icons, showing windows on all desktops in the same way no matter if they are minimized or not - it all make taskbar completely unusable: it is really hard to find there application I need. Actually, similar problem is with most applets - really poor functionality... No window list available... kdesu still does not work as sudo... Adding applets to kicker is complicated now - first one needs to dig out desktop, find there active area, guess about dragging... Real problem is how to forbid automounting of media - I've found the only way: sudo rmdir /media. I hope, it will change soon, but seems like for work and leisure I'll stay with 3.5.

yea. it seems like there a lot of features of kde3 just need to be cloned in kde. i bet that in 4.1 and/or 4.2 we will see a lot of these additions or maybe even just community based apps that addon or change features to be more comfortable.

How do you save your current session? I can't find it anywhere.

It should be saved when you press 'apply'.
