PDF Editor for Linux?

Is there an opensource project like the PDF Editor by cadkas.de on Linux? Where one can actually edit text in existing PDF files.

Please let me know - I'd like to support such project financially.

You could use pdftohtml, and then use bluefish to edit the HTML code without actually needing to know HTML.

  • *buntu users: sudo apt-get install pdftohtml
  • Anything besides *Buntu based off of Debian: su
    <password>
    apt-get install pdftohtml
  • Mandriva: su
    <password>
    urpmi pdftohtml
  • Gentoo: su
    <password>
    emerge pdftohtml
  • Source Install: http://pdftohtml.sourceforge.net/

Compiling from source is always better, but if you want something easy, take your pick ^_^

RE: PDF Editor for Linux?

I have the same problem... browsing the net I found the following solutions:

FLPSED: free, linux, fast, but only adds text
http://www.ecademix.com/JohannesHofmann/flpsed.html

PDFEDIT: free, linux, rather slow, adds text, lines, highlight, etc...
It lacks "undo" funcionallity and most comments will not show up
while reading the saved document with xpdf (they show up with
acrobat thou).
http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfedit

PDFSTUDIO
paid but has demo version, java based, linux/windows, rather slow,
adds text, lines, highlight, etc...
It lacks "undo" funcionallity and most comments will not show up
while reading the saved document with xpdf (they show up with
acrobat thou).

none seems final...

Latest pdfstudio - A Good PDF Editor

I had been looking for a good PDF editor in linux for a long time. In addition to a bunch of my favorite features, I was searching for a product that is stable, fast and is easy to use. Among the host of features, I was particular about highlighting, graphical annotations, comments and baloon notes insertion capabilities so I can very easily highlight, mark and add review comments to tons of research papers that I read and review regularly.

The first tool that I tried was "pdfedit" obviously because it was free. I commend the pdfedit development team for taking initiative and creating the pdfedit software. pdfedit offers many features but falls short in satisfying my top three criteria.

I then started searching for commercial solutions. After downloading trial versions and trying out many, I finally homed in on pdfstudio 6.0 version from Qoppa Software(http://www.qoppa.com). The very first run of the trial version caught my attention. Easy to use and yet, it offered many powerful PDF editing features. It has remained stable and has won me so far. I learned that it is targetted to work on hosts of operating systems - linux, mac and windows.

Hopefully, others in the market will catch up soon to understand customer's needs and meet expectations as pdfstudio does(to quiete an extent). I am certainly looking forward to seeing that come from others(including pdfedit folks).

Use Quoppa as well and have for the past 6 months. Suite of libraries include java bean components to manipulate pdf's...it's the best I've used

Hi, I've used the beta a version of a PDF editor (developed by Iceni). Try to download it. Maybe it suits your demands.
