kdelibs update renders kdeinit to crash

A recent update of kdelibs / kdebase has rendered my kdeinit to crash. What has happened? It complained about an undefined symbol in libXft.so.2.1.2, something with "SetLcd", apparently needed for my laptop with an ATI Radeon card.

I built a new libXft and installed it. Now, kdeinit starts again, but my desktop has changed. The fonts look terrible, programs start slow, Firefox crashes, and more.

What has happened, and -more important- does anyone have any suggestions how to get back to the working environment?

Try setting up a test user and start kde with it.
if kde looks normal, cleanup the . files in the home directory of the main user
if kde looks bad, check your installation again.
Try reinstalling kde

also notify the package builder that created the update

Hoi Rinse,

With a new user, everything went better and faster. I removed a few . files in my home and logged in. It also went faster now. I used the original .kde and it was still good.

I think the problem was caused by something in .fonts or .fontconfig, since libXft has to do with fonts.

Thanks for your input.
