kPilot synchronization

Hi, all. I haven't been posting to the forum much in the last year or so, but I'm getting back into the swing of things. And now for my question :D

I've been getting my machine at home back up and running in every possible aspect after switching from Gentoo to Kubuntu, and the last item on my list is synchronizing my Palm Zire 31. I've been fiddling and fiddling with it, and have been experiencing the oddest problems. After poking around here, I found that I'm not alone. So here's my question: have I read (or did I imagine it) that the current framework for kPilot is going in the trash with KDE 4.0? Meaning, is it true that it's being replaced with something entirely new? I sure hope so, because as much as I love KDE for most things (Amarok, Konqueror, DigiKam), I can't cope with kPilot and pilot link.

Any and all comments and predictions for the future are welcome.
In retrospect, everything is funny.

kpilot was moved to extragear in the kde4 branch, but recently it got moved back to kdepim for inclusion in kde4.

besides kpilot, kdepim4 will include a synchronisation tool based on opensync, wich you can also use for syncing your palm.

kpilot is back in kde4 because it addresses certain elements in managing palmpilots that aren't covered by opensync.

the main problem with kpilot is that there are so many different palm configurations on the market, not all of them could be tested with kpilot, simply because the developers just can't bey every device on the market.
In some rare occasions, kpilot can trash you data on your palm, in other occasions (like with my palm z22) you need to do some tweaks in order to get kpilot to synchronise the device.

AFAIK kpilot got accepted in googles summer of code project, so chances are that this situation will improve for kde4.
