Setting Konqueror default view

I'm embarassed to say that as a long time KDE user I can't figure out how to change Konqueror's default view.

Even though my File Manager profile is set to detail view, when I open a new tab I always get the icon view.

Anyone know?

RE: Setting Konqueror default view

Set Konqueror to the Details view, then go to Settings -> Save Profile (or a similar named option).

RE: Setting Konqueror default view

All that does is set the default view for whatever profile I choose to save it under. I have two profiles, Kubuntu File Manager and Kubuntu Web, and even if I set both of them to be details view, any new windows or tabs use the icon view until I either load one of the view profiles (which closes all my tabs) or select the view mode from the View menu.

Similar Problem

I am having a similar problem. I have set the view mode to detailed list and saved the profile as Kubuntu File Manager. That works for almost every situation except when I mount my external usb cdrom under system:/media/scd0. When I do this it reverts to the Icon view.

Any suggestions?

Ross.

RE: Similar Problem

Hey together,

I had exactly the same problem as described by Arawak for some while now.
Finally I found the solution in a german KDE forum:

1/ Right-click in the browser-window and choose 'settings'
2/ In the window that is popping up, click the little icon with a screwdriver on it.
3/ In the window that is now popping up go to the second tab.
4/ Here you can change the order in which the konqueror views are chosen.

Alternatively you can edit .kde/share/config/konquerorrc :

[ModeToolBarServices]
external=konq_detailedlistview

Works perfectly!!

Thanks ssigg,

I edited .kde/share/config/konquerorrc as you suggested and it works perfectly!

Ross.

Respects to Alex S for the solution.

Seriously, this could be much better documented.

I'm currently evaluating Kubuntu as a Windows replacement at home (because I ain't going to Vista!) and experienced this same problem last night. There is no obvious way to set detailed-list view as the default for all new tabs, so this will be great. I agree with Arawak that this needs to be documented better, but not only that, there should be an option for this to set somewhere.

Customising Konqueror seems to be 95% geared towards web browser options and 5% file management options. I prefer Firefox for my browser so I don't care about Konqueror as a web browser - as far as I'm concerned, it's the perfect replacement for people used to Windows Explorer who don't really like the dumbed-down and chunky Dolphin file manager.

I sure hope that Konqueror gets some love, but not too much love that they tinker with it too much in a bad way.
