slow-motion desktop

I run a debian/testing box
Since an apt-get dist-upgrade last week all my (X / KDE) windows move slowly; stuttering. They stutter at opening (e.g. Konsole, Konqueror firefox, gvim etc.) like slow-motion. And when I move them around on desktop they move ropy like a „wave“: at first starts the top third of the window; then moves the middle third and at last follows the remainder of window.
Yes I have an old CPU (1,3 Ghz) – though before this upgrade the movements were smooth and light.

The kde-components went up from version 3.5.4 to 3.5.5
The X-components (xorg, xserver-xorg) went up from version 7.0.22 to 7.1.0
The X-components (xserver-common) from 1.0.2-9 to 1.1.1-10

I tried to switch font aliasing on / off – no difference
KsysGuard shows a CPU-load 18%, SwapMemory 0%, LoadAverage very small...
I killed most of my processes (the remaining processes are listed below) – no really difference

So – I can live with this behaviour
But I would appreciate any advice

RE: slow-motion desktop

Do you have Composite enabled? You can disable it by right clicking a title bar, Configure Window Behaviour, and choose the last section Transparency.

RE: slow-motion desktop

Hmm, I think it's a video driver problem then. Are you using 3rd party drivers from nVidia or ATI?
