tooltip color change

I can't seem to find how to change this, but how do I change the color of the tooltips in KDE 3.3.2? I've gotten everything else how I want it. I don't really care for the black on pale yellow background. Also, when I save my custom color scheme, where does it save to? I want to import it to my other KDE desktop.

RE: tooltip color change

Anyone? Maybe there is a text file I can edit?

RE: tooltip color change

Color schemes are saved in ~/.kde/share/config/kdeglobals and ~/.qt/qtrc . The appearance of tooltips cannot be changed, at least with Qt 3.

I'm also having this tooltip color problem in order to have a consistent look with the color theme i've chosen.

As i like dark color themes the default background color of the tooltips makes them unreadable. Try reading white characters on light yellow background and you have the idea.

I have though been able to change the color of the tooltip text, so i can read them now.
I think it was by changing one of the text colors to light blue in the kde theme, but i'm not 100% sure as it only changed after rebooting a few days later.

So now i'm stuck with that awful yellow background that doesn't fit at all with the rest of the theme.

Searching the internet i found a solution that works for a gnome environment :

Quoted

#1 edit ~/.gtkrc-2.0
#2 Copy and paste the following lines in that file:

style “tooltip” { bg[NORMAL] = “#FFFFFF” }
widget “gtk-tooltips” style “tooltip”

#3 Change the Hex code (#FFFFFF) to whatever color you want.

Apparently there's even an easier way to do it under Gnome by using gnome-color-chooser.

So i searched for a similar file working with kde and found one in ~/.kderc
Here's the content of this file :

Quoted

[General]
StandardFont=DejaVu Sans,10,-1,5,50,0,0,0,0,0
activeFont=DejaVu Sans,10,-1,5,50,0,0,0,0,0
background=0,42,78
fixed=Bitstream Vera Sans Mono,10,-1,5,50,0,0,0,0,0
font=DejaVu Sans,10,-1,5,50,0,0,0,0,0
menuFont=DejaVu Sans,10,-1,5,50,0,0,0,0,0
selectBackground=92,179,255
selectForeground=0,0,0
taskbarFont=DejaVu Sans,10,-1,5,50,0,0,0,0,0
toolBarFont=DejaVu Sans,10,-1,5,50,0,0,0,0,0
windowBackground=66,103,148
windowForeground=135,190,253

I've checked the RGB colors mentioned in this file and they're are some of those set by the kde theme. None of them being light yellow, changing those already present won't help.
Problem is i can't find any information about how to configure this file, nor if it's possible to add a few lines to change the tooltip background with it.
The only info i found on a kde wiki was about setting some directories, which has nothing to do with this issue & didn't at all reflect the contents of this file on my system.

So if anyone has more information to about this file or how to change the tooltip background color it would be nice to share it ;)

EDIT : found this on list.kde.org, thought it might help some who have this issue, i'm using polyester though

The only way for you to be able to change the tooltip
color is if the Style you are using has an option for it (KControl ->
Appearance & Themes -> Style -> Configure button). The only style that I know
of that allows this is Domino. Plastik and Polyester don't have this option.

Hmmm i feel a lot of enthusiasm about this issue :tongue:

Could we at least have a clue as whether we will be able to change to tooltip background color easily in the near future?
It doesn't look like it would be that difficult to implement compared to all the new features coming in kde 4.

As I saw in kde4 (screenshot), it would be possible. Tooltip I saw was semi-transparent and fully themed.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!

I have been tring to find this setting for days now!

I happen to be using Domino with a dark theme and had nasty white text on a light yellow background for the tool tip. I have now darkened it up and now all is fine.

Thanks again boss!
