KPlayer (notice no M) autoloads subtitles just fine for me, but if it doesn't then there's always File/Load Subtitles option. Not sure about KMPlayer, sorry.
I solved that just copying a ttf font to .mplayer/subfont.ttf which is loaded to display the subtitles.
cp /usr/share/fonts/truetype/freefont/FreeMono.ttf .mplayer/subfont.ttf
