I'm presuming you mean the KDE Control Center?

Try starting them manually with these commands:
kcontrol
khelpcenter

See what happens. If they still won't launch, try entering those commands in Konsole so that you could see what error messages are displayed.
OS: Kubuntu 6.06 LTS (Dapper Drake) | KDE 3.5.3

ran kcontrol, khelpcenter, kopete

i ran kcontrol, and kopete from the run kde command and they said
KDEInit could not launch "appname"

i also ran khelpcenter and nothing happened at all. i also tried calling them from the terminal window and got this error:

kcontrol: /opt/gcc-3.4.6/lib/libstdc++.so.6: version `CXXABI_1.3.1' not found (required by /usr/lib/libkhtml.so.4)

for each of them i got the same error. i installed gcc-3.4.6 on my system before the update. however since i updated the packages on my computer after the upgrade to fedora 5, now when i run which gcc it gives me the 4.1. (i'm only saying this because i don't understand why it is looking for libstdc++.so.6 from gcc-3.4.6 instead of from gcc-4.1

please help!
