Xgl

I have been recently playing with the Xgl stuff under compiz like most of you I am sure.
I was interested in kind of playing with writing some compiz plugins for fun and decided to see what the KDE4 concences was with reguard to Xgl. I have ducked and weaved throught the wiki's forums and google and have found no information on how KDE4 is going to or even if it is going to integrate with Xgl or any of its varients. Can anybody in the know comment on this.

I realize this is probibly related to Plasma in some way.

XGL and AICGL are (X-) serverside technologies, which can apply this effects all windows, independent of their toolkit.

They both still need some kind of compositing manager to use the fancy effects. I think KDE4 should include either it's own or be as compatible as possible with compiz.

I think KDE should switch over to compiz and drop kwin. Wait, hear me out. Since compiz is very plugin based, this would allow the desktop environment to load its own plugins when the environment is started, making compiz look and act however it deems necessary. Plus, this would mean that GNOME (if they choose to switch as well) and KDE would have a common window manager to both work on and improve together. This would also mean that if I liked some effect that GNOME uses, I could use with KDE and vice-versa. Of course, this would require that compiz be able to run in an environment without AIGLX and XGL while still being usable. By using a common environment, developers can target both desktops equally well. I know I'd prefer to have this functionality.

I think KDE 4 MUST manage XGL as it manage composite today and, it can be interesent some styles exploiting transparency in somes controls as the menus or the toolbar. It is the future of the desktops display. But, I think KDE have to keep Kwin in all cases.
