KDE 3.5 Screensaver Problem

I am using KDE 3.5 installed under Slackware 10.2 (Kernel 2.6.14). When I was using version 3.4 the screensaver functioned perfectly, now with version 3.5 the screensavwer will not turn on after the specified period of inactivity.

In the configuration window I can 'test' all the various screensavers and the 'test' works fine, it is just that when I save the configuration, I get no screensaver.

I am logged in as 'root' and I wonder if this is the reason in this verion of KDE.

If this is the problem, how can I get it to work with 'root' as the user?.

Thank you for any help.

I have the same problem in Ubuntu. Before 3.5 it worked. Now it works in the config dialog with test. But it just won't come on by itself.

If I choose lock session from the main menu it comes on.

Of course, I find the answer about 10 minutes after posting it.

I had to edit ~/.kde/share/config/kdesktoprc manually.

In the [ScreenSaver] section I added:

Quoted

DPMS-dependent=false

and restarted KDE. I don't know if there's a setting in Control Center that lets you do this.

I've already set that, it doesn't cure the problem for me.

Worked for me :-)

I'm running Fedora 4, KDE 3.5.1-0.1.fc4, kernel 2.6.15-1.1833_FC4

Thanks.
