KDE startup problem

Hi guyz/girlz,

Im totally new to the linux scene, so i need a lil help with it. :)

I just got my linux server. (DEBIAN)
its not at my home, so i login with ssh (putty)
i installed kde normally, but when i try to run it (kdestart)
i get the following error;

xsetroot: unable to open display ''
xset: unable to open display ""
xsetroot: unable to open display ''
startkde: Starting up...
startkde: Running kpersonalizer...
kwin: cannot connect to X server
kpersonalizer: cannot connect to X server

I dont know if i can use KDE remote? so thats the first question.

if it can, how will i do that?

if it can not be done, how can i login remotely with a graphical interface?

Thanks in advance..

Before you connect, try the command

Source code

1
xhost +

this will allow your display to be used remotely and will probably solve your problem.

On the other hand, the advantage of Linux systems is that you don't have to install a window-manager on a server (which consumes quite a large amount of resources). This requires a basically good knowledge of the command line, of curse. On the other hand, once your familiar with, you won't feel the need for a graphical environment on a server.
