Ok, I found this after I was proceeding to put in a wish on kde bugs (hoping somebody would tell me), and found an old bug raised with the same issue. Basically, there is no GUI function to reset kwallet. If you open the file: $HOME/.kde/share/apps/khtml/formcompletions the very last line holds 'sites never to remember passwords' for -> [NonPasswordStorableSites]. KDE 3.5.4 I have a site I log into, and on the first instance I (wrongly) told kwallet to 'never' remember password from this site. But I need to 'reset' it, so that I get the option again so I can add the UID/Password to kwallet for this site - but I can't find out where/how to? There is nothing in kwallet that refers to the url of the site, nor can I find any information anywhere on where kwallet stores this information of which sites to ignore. Ideas anyone? Nick
Yes, you need to SUID to kcheckpass as root: > chown root.root `which kcheckpass` > chmod 4755 `which kcheckpass` but you may have to check up with Kubuntu - I have heard it doesn't have a root account, so don't know what you would do there. Nick

All works OK for me on 3.5.2... but sometimes the settings go AWOL when you upgrade - so turn that setting OFF, log out KDE, log in, then change the setting back ON again - this will set it correctly. Nick
If you are not worried about 'crash reports'/debug info, and do not use IPV6, I found these two environment $VARS speed things up a tad: KDE_DEBUG=0 KDE_NO_IPV6=1 BTW, 3.5.1 is _perfect_!! All the little issues I had/bug reported got fixed! Nick
But they are pretty small builds - these things happened randomly with the above 2 issues - depends on what the rest of the machine doing etc. Does the Konstruct build fail (segfault) at the same place each time? I doubt it. Nick
Usually if GCC segfaults, it is due to 2 things: 1) Over heating cpu/fans not working/system too hot. 2) Bad RAM. Building KDE would well test your system and show if any of the above is apparent. Nick
NEVER overwrite existing *working* kde. It is only a $ENV that points to the build you need to use, so USE it. Last thing you want is to overwrite a good KDE. Nick
Also if you are using Konstruct, there is a bug in the code that doesn't allow you to run 'make buildclean' to just clean out the build directories and run it all again WITHOUT downloading all the tarball files again (basically they get kept). Yes, I had the same problem. Depending on your build, if you used /meta/kde or /meta/everything go into the directory and open up the Makefile. You will see a line of all the files to build 'LIBDEPS = ... ...' Just remove the Knights file from that line, then issue 'make' again... I have attached my /meta/everything/Makefile for you to see what I remove on stuff that failed for me. Nick
Useless fact. Ever wonder why source code always has a README file (and other important files) like that? It is due to legacy from Unix terminals so that when people used to list directory contents, the important files were listed first (Makefile is another example). Nick

If this _only_ happens for one user, then suspect a dodgy config file in {home}/.kde of that user. I maybe worth looking for the keyboard config file in the users .kde file and deleting it. Or even via Control Centre set all the keyboard settings to default, log outm and log in to see if that cleared it? Nick

Yes, you have to add by hand. First of all, you will need an entry in /etc/fstab for the USB stick. My device on /dev/sda1 and mounts on /mnt/usb. Here is my /etc/fstab entry for this: Source code 1 /dev/sda1 /mnt/usb auto noauto,user 0 0 Once you have that, you can now add the desktop icon. On the desktop, right mouse click and from the menu select > Create New->Link to Device->Hard Disc device. What you are seeing there is 'auto-hinting'. If you turn that off: Now, auto-hinting will be turned on in /etc/fonts/fonts.conf or /etc/fonts/local.conf or even perhaps ~/.fonts.conf.
