RE: Leaving mail on server until deleted from inbox.

Settings->configure Kmail->accounts->receiving accounts->modify setting has a check box to 'leave messages on server'. But then there is no easy way to then remove the messages from the server when you have decided to do so. You might try two separate receiving accounts..one set to leave messages on server and one which deletes from server.

RE: What is "Delete from server"?

What it *should* do is to delete the message from your e-mail provider's server. Normally it would be sent to your computer but if you have blocked it with a filter it would NOT be sent, it would just be deleted from the mail server...ie it would just be GONE. I can't actually confirm that it will work this way, my IP service provider has a pretty effective filter which holds anything considered spam then notifies me when there is a collection of messages so I can review them & accept them or no...

Kmail: downloads ALL emails

Tools->configure Kmail->Accounts Uncheck the checkbox for 'check new mail on startup'. That should stop it from automatically downloading mail on startup.

How do I make Kmail properly read html messages?

How do I make kmail properly read html? I composed a sample message in tunderbird composer: "This is an html message. There should be a picture of tux here: <inserted a jpg of tux in the message with alternate text 'There should be a picture of tux here'> (t-bird's composer provides for an alternate text intended for text only recipents) This line should be after the picture. " I sent it to myself from thunderbird. Received in kmail, it displayed the alternate text in the message body with the g...

kMail and kAddress Book - no connection?

geoffcaplan, I hope you got your problem solved, I'm afraid I can't help. However, back at the original topic: The IS a problem with kaddressbook and the addresses which appear using the 'select' button in composer. I cannot get the address list in my address book to open using the 'select addressbook' dialog box in kmail 1.8.2; it only shows recent addresses from the list in kderc. My addressbook is the default 'resource-name' but 'resource-name' shows up blank using the select addressbook dial...

Dumped Kmail for Thunderbird

Sorry for taking so long to reply. I've been away. OK, I've tried the 'in line' setting on my sample email with animated gif's embedded in the message body which T-bird opens properly. I now have animated gif's working but they are still located as attachments at the end of the message instead of in the message body. Is this fixable?

RE: Dumped Kmail for Thunderbird

Quoted Originally posted by anda_skoa Do you have the view option "inline" activated for attachments? Where is this option? I have been all over the configure kmail settings & can't find it. Quoted Kmail also will not display proper formatting (simple stuff like underlining) for a mime type: apple mail v 2.619 message. <reply> Maybe it doesn't know about that format. It appears this is so. but Mac is a pretty common system; I am assuming this is a standard Mac output format. T-bird reads it pro...

Dumped Kmail for Thunderbird

After months of trying to get kmail to match what thunderbird can do, I have given up & switched to thunderbird. Specifically; thunderbird will display html messages with embedded gif animations properly with the animations working and placed in the body of the message as they are supposed to be. Kmail shows them only as attachments at the end of the message and will not show animated gifs animated, only as stills. Kmail also degenerates this type of message so that the in-message-body animation...

Kjots questions ??

Quoted Original von Bill Case I guess it gives away my age.... Just to give away MY age, my first experience with computers was stealing time on a university mainframe back when all computers were mainframes & programs were in 'time shared basic' on paper punch tape. Perhaps I will give kjots another try. The thing I like about knotes is that you don't lose the focus on whatever you are taking notes about...just highlight, two clicks & a rename. even the rename can wait til later. Like using a ...

Re: kjots shared files/data??

Quoted Original von Bill Case I really like using Kjots. It fits exactly the way I work. That is, I use it all the time to make notes and reminders etc. to myslelf. Except: I have myself setup as two different users. User1 is for my normal play, learn and browse sessions. User2 is set up as a clean, sparse space where I work on paying projects (I am semi-retired). Pardon the irrelevant explanation but I have had so many people ask me why I would even want the following. I want to set up Kjots s...

kdeinit could not launch.....

Knoppix (Debian) system with KDE 3.2.3; although I don't think this is relevant because I have had the same problem with Mandrake & others. Problem is with many applications I get an error message: [code:1]kdeinit could not launch <application>[/code:1] usually the application starts anyway & runs just fine, often the error message does not appear until after the application has launched, been run & closed out. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to these errors, for instance I drag'n'dropped t...

Do you like the actual KDE Controlcenter??? (vote)

I voted 'yes' but didn't really mean it....the only other choice is 'No' and I don't dislike it. There should have been a middle choice. It isn't bad once you get used to it. They keep removing stuff from it..for instance you can no longer do X configurations or setup kdm to boot different session types. It does have a useable search tab, tell the developers working on Khelpcenter to come have a look to see how it's done; Khelpcenter REALLY needs this.

KDM broken, reboots Xserver, no desktop environments

You didn't just recently upgrade to KDE 3.2 did you? If so, see bug 75882 or 68331. The way KDE3.2 starts up has changed considerable from 3.1.

Re: putting kde 3.2 into the login manager?

see bug 75882 or 68331. The way KDE3.2 starts up has changed considerable from 3.1. Quoted ok guys its taken three days to compile kde3.2 on my laptop, i did it as a normal user for safety, .... im using Debian (installed from knoppix) its been a hard slog to get here My sympathies. I unsuccessfully tried to compile 3.2 for Mandrake, eventually found rpm's. For Debians...did you know KDE3.2.2 is in unstable? 'apt-get -t unstable install kde' gets most of it in one big install (you have to remove...

Easy installation guide to kde 3.2.1 in fedora and redhat 9

Quoted Original von m4ktub Quoted Original von mikejava I also have lost gnome after installing kde 3.2 It is not in the drop-down list of desktops How can I get it back? There should be a way to configure this with the control panel but, at least, in Fedora there isn't. Anyway, back to the good old reliable shell  As super user edit kdmrc (in Fedora /etc/kde/kdm/kdmrc) and search for SessionTypes. Add "gnome" to the list. I think that you must also have a gnome.desktop under the director...
