I was thinking that it might be an interesting idea to have the option of chaning the ZUI view based on what the user is doing. For example, if I set up a ZUI that had Plasmoids configured to help me do sound/music editing, when I happen to launch Audacity from the main menu, KDE automatically switches to the ZUI that applies (which I would have previously specified). I'm a Mandriva 2009 and KDE 4.1 user, as well. I believe that I read somewhere that it would be KDE 4.2 that would support Mac Widgets. Unless someone has more information, you might have to wait for 4.2.
I believe what you're referring to here are KDE "plasmoids". Instead of having the contents of the .Desktop fold appearing on your desktop, they are contained in a Plasmoid that displays folder contents. You can have several of these directory view Plasmoids on your desktop, each showing different directories. Open up the KDE "System Settings" application then go to: Look & Feel -> Appearance -> choose Icons (from the left hand menu) -> select the Advanced tab -> choose the appropriate icon size using the drop down men you see in the top portion of the config window. As for the fonts, go through the Fonts settings in the same locaiton. Just click on the Fonts icon in the menu to the left right below the Icons selection.
At the moment, I do not seem to have a background image (wallpaper) configured in KDE 4.1 for the ZUI when I "zoom out" to see all Activities. Where do I/ how can I configure this setting? I'm using Mandriva 2009.0 and KDE 4.1 (although I suppose that really doesn't matter much).

I was wondering if someone could give me some tips to get the print preview feature to work with my KDE apps. All I get are blank pages when I print preview with any KDE app. (Konqueror, Koffice, for example). Applications, like GIMP and OpenOffice seem to display print preview okay, it just seems as though KDE is missing something or something is not configured properly. Any advice?
Don't know much about this sort of thing. Could it be a duplex problem? Have you looked through your settings in the Control Center -> Sound & Multimedia -> Sound System menu?

Are you only adjusting the font sizes with the enlarge/shrink icon buttons? Or have you tried changing the default font sizes under Konqueror Set-up menu as well? Don't know if it will work, but it was an idea.

I've got KDE 3.4 running. Now, I'd like to get Kooka working with my HP 3-in-1 printer/scanner. Printing works fine (using hpijs driver) but Kooka does not seem to "see" the scanner part. I don't know how to tell Kooka to detect the scanner. I click on the "Select Scan Device" button, but nothing happens. Will it? Gmail already looks and works great on my Konqueror browser. KDE even has an applet that sits on your task bar and notifies you if any new mail arrives in your G-mail account. It's called KCheckGmail.

I had a similar experience once when I was trying out Slackware. In my case, it was an X.org set-up problem. Took me a few tries to get my mouse properly configured, but finally got X.org to recognize my mouse.
