Input Action to play a song from the beginning

Hi. I am wondering how I can set this up. My media keyboard has back/forward buttons for media players. I have assigned them to the "back()" and "forward()" DCOP functions for the JuK media player. However, the back buttown always goes back to the previous track. What it should do instead is, it should go back to the beginning of the song being played, and if hit again, goes back to the previous track. That's how the back button works on every single music player that I've known; iPods, walkmen,...

RE: KAudioCreator - international characters in mp3 fields

Quoted Originally posted by busterG I'm encoding an audio CD which has a lot of international characters in the track titles, and performer names. I can go into File->Edit Album and chose an Encoding, but this only fixes the problem for filenames, not for the tags that get written to the mp3s themselves. So I can get a track name to be Prélude.mp3 but the track information for the title shows "Prélude". I'm using KAudioCreator 1.4.3 and I'm encoding to mp3 using the default settings (it has to...

Listening to non-DRM AAC file on JuK?

Hi. Apple has started selling non-DRM music files through iTunes Music Store. They are still ACC-encoded but do not include the infamous DRM. It means we can play those music files on Linux. My question is, how can I play them using JuK? I realize that I can use Kaffeine to play those unrestricted AAC files (yes I tried), but I'd prefer Juk because it's lightweight and compact and has what I need. Your feedback would be appreciated. TIA, Dai

Kmail 4

Quoted Originally posted by jms Probably, being alone using linux/kde in a company where 6000 other employees use Windows/Outlook is uncommon and it certainly will remain so until kmail better integrates with Outlook. IMO, it all comes down to what the goal of KDE is. If the goal is to let KDE work more seamlessly with the Windows environment, then your suggestion makes sense. However, I don't think that's where KDE is (or should be) going. As Linux users, we all know that adoption by the mass ...

Kmail 4

Quoted Originally posted by AVonGauss For example, what is most recently burning me and frustrating my clients is when they use Outlook to send a message with color highlighting (HTML) and I use KMail to reply, if I don't make use of "HTML" KMail automatically replies with plain text only. In most cases it doesn't preserve any of the HTML formatting of the original message in either replies or forwards unless you forward the message as an attachment. The client I am referring to is a Fortune 50...

[Kontect] Sync with Microsoft Exchange

In my opinion, it is way overdue. I love KDE and most of its applications, including Kontact. However, I am forced to use Evolution at work because we use Exchange as our mail server.

RE: Good image editing application?

Quoted Originally posted by basse i'm afraid that's it. gimp and krita are the big ones. what is it actually that you are trying to do, and can't? I'm not the OP, but I'm interested in this "krita" thing. I've been using The GIMP because I didn't know KDE had any comparable image editing tool. Mind showing me where I can grab krita? I did a bit of Googling around but could not find a good place on the Web. Thanks! Dai

why KDE so ugly

Quoted Originally posted by calande Whatever distro you use, KDE still has thick borders, large buttons and everything is not refined as a whole. I totally agree with cecram above. I use FC5 and CentOS 4 now, both with KDE 3.5.x. I don't see any think borders or large buttons on my desktop at all. I don't mean to say KDE is perfect. It's probably not. One of the great things about KDE, though, is it's highly customizable. KDE comes with many different themes (i.e. decorations). If none of them ...

RE: kmix global shortcut settings

Quoted Originally posted by corktowner I have since loaded PCLinuxOS to give a try, I am seriously considering deleting Suse from my system because of Novell's deal with the evil empire. Everything is working perfectly in PCLinuxOS except for the screensaver. However, back to your question, the volume increase key registers a key press when I run XEV, it returns the proper keycode. I don't recall whether I tried to assign another function to the key. This is no longer an issue at this point. If...

RE: kmix global shortcut settings

I just tried it on my FC5 (KDE 3.5.4) machine. Both volume up/down work just fine. You might want to make sure the key you're using to increase volume does work. What happens, for instance, if you use the key you originally assigned to decreasing volume? Will the volume increase?

RE: Movie screen capturing using KSnapShot

Quoted Originally posted by twat Yes, X11 output is much slower than XVideo. Even if you may not notice it on some movies, you will notice it on higher resolution ones. So once you are done taking snapshots, it's best to switch back to XVideo or whatever your accelerated output is. Thanks again! The default video output is set to "auto." I have switched back to it immediately after I was done capturing necessary screenshots.

RE: Movie screen capturing using KSnapShot

Quoted Originally posted by twat You can capture the picture if your player uses native X11 video output. Normally a player will use XVideo or another accelerated output, which KSnapshot cannot capture. So try to set Kaffeine to use X11 output. Aah, great! I changed the video output to use xshm (X11 output) in Kaffeine. I can now capture the images using KSnapShot. Thanks a million! Now... is there a catch to this? I mean, does using X11 output cause any performance degradation? I haven't notic...

Movie screen capturing using KSnapShot

Hi. I'm wondering why this is happening... While I play encrypted DVDs with Kaffeine, I can still use its "screen capture" function (<Ctrl> + S) to capture screenshots without any problem. However, I can't do the same using KSnapShot. What I want t odo is capture the full desktop including Kaffeine showing a certain video. Since Kaffeine only captures its own image, I must rely upon KSnapShot. How should I get around it? Thanks! Dai

RE: [Kopete] crashes when trying to setup webcam

The problem *seems* to be that when the device class is initialized, it does not call the method to scan the devices connected to the computer (Kopete::AV::VideoDevicePool::scanDevices()). Also, the latest version of kopete is calling "setVideoInputParameters" whether or not any device is present, which seems to be causing the segfault. I changed the code a bit and am now recompiling kdenetwork. Hopefully I can give you some good news.

Q: Kicker Panel Configuration

Hi. I would like to configure a panel in the following way. How is it possible? 1. Add a "panel" on the top right corner. 2. Make it 15% and NOT expandable 3. Do NOT allow apps to cover the panel 4. Yet let the apps cover the "unexpanded" area of the panel. Steps 1 thru 3 are really easy. The problem I'm having is, once I configure the panel that way, the other apps will not be able to cover the top area of the desktop that would be covered by the panel if the panel were 100% long. What I want t...

JuK and AAC/MP4

Thanks guys. Actually, I have amaroK 1.4-beta3 on my system. It still will not play AAC files. The error message on the status bar says "Media could not be loaded." Right now, my best option for playing AAC files looks like going back to XMMS. (Xine would probably be good, too, though it'd be an overkill to just play back music... IMO.)

Quoted Originally posted by bram85 See http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=96436 . This is still an unimplemented wish. I heard that amaroK supports these files if you have installed faac. Thanks for the info. I tried amaroK as well, but it would not play the AAC files either. I do have "faac" installed. Source code 1 2 [daihard-fc5:/home/dtoyama/music]$ rpm -qa | grep faac faac-1.24-4.lvn5 Any idea what's happening? Thanks!

JuK and AAC/MP4

Hi. I'm wondering if there's any way I can play the unlocked Apple AAC (i.e. .m4a) files using JuK? I used to use XMMS to play both mp3 and m4a files. I've recently decided to give JuK a try. In fact, I like its interface so much, I'm seriously considering making JuK my main multimedia app. The only obstacle to that is the lack of m4a playback capability. If anyone can help me get JuK to play m4a files, I'd be much much grateful. Thanks! Dai
