any way to recover files deleted from trash

I moved a few files I thought I wouldn't want any more to the KDE trash, and then deleted them from trash. Later I regretted this, and now I'd like to try to recover them. Is there any way to do this? I'm trying to avoid writing any new files to disk until I try, but I'm sure my browser and other apps are saving files that I don't know about.

RE: KDE Themes, Styles, Wallpapers, Icons and more: KDE-Look.org

Quoted Originally posted by kde-forum I hope everybody know this page: KDE-Look.org Themes, Styles, Wallpapers, Icons and more for your Desktop www.kdelook.org Yes, I've been to this site many times, but I don't know what to do with the files I download - I haven't been able to find instructions anywhere. Can anyone suggest a basic tutorial, FAQ, or WIKI about KDE themes, styles, decorations, etc.?

routing sound to multiple soundcards

Quoted Originally posted by ipspeB I really don't know about other programs, since I use KPlayer for all my media playing needs. In any case each program should allow you to configure your sound output, we are talking about KDE after all... Well, I guess that's what I'm asking ... how do you configure output? Should it be in the application's configure menu somewhere? I haven't found anything like that.

routing sound to multiple soundcards

Thanks! That was a big help. I decided to create the ~/.asoundrc file (there wasn't one previously) and to set the pcm and ctl defaults to my "basic" card, following your suggestion. I didn't want to change the /etc/asound.conf file, since it has a warning at the top not to edit it by hand, since it's generated by Fedora's system-config-soundcard utility. Now my sounds all come out of the PC speakers connected to the basic card, as I'd wanted, but the sound from the applications that used to go ...

routing sound to multiple soundcards

I have two soundcards in my FC4 box: a basic two-channel card connected to small PC speakers, and a more sophisticated multi-channel card for multitrack recording (M-Audio 1010LT), which is connected to a better monitoring system. My hope, when I installed the second card, was that system sounds (notifications, alarms, etc.) would be routed to the basic card, and I could still do serious audio work on the second card, using JACK. I was pleasantly surprised when I installed the second card, to fi...

can't install kdewebdev; FC4/gcc4 blacklisted

Problem solved - it turns out kdewebdev is included with the Fedora Core distro, I just hadn't included it in my initial install. I was told where to find it and installed it successfully.

can't install kdewebdev; FC4/gcc4 blacklisted

I'd like to build and install kdewebdev, but I get the error message from the configure script that my version of gcc (4) has been blacklisted by KDE because of incompatibility resulting from bugs in gcc4. What do I do? Is there no way I can install this product?

KDE hangs when restoring previous session

Well, thanks, but no, I don't have an nvidia card, and besides, I've been running KDE successfully for quite some time with my current xorg.conf settings. Actually, I got a response to the same query on linux-questions.org, in which someone suggested that I move or delete the files in my ~/.kde/share/config/sessions directory, which indeed allowed me to restart KDE successfully. I'm not sure what broke it in the first place, but knowing at least one way to change the session information is usefu...

KDE hangs when restoring previous session

I am currently unable to start KDE under my main userid (root is fine), because it hangs when it gets 33% through restoring the previous session. The cursor still moves in response to mouse movements, but I get no response from the keyboard or mouse clicks, and must reboot every time. Is there a way to get it to start without restoring the previous session? (I know how to set this as a preference once KDE is running, but I have to do it from 'outside' a KDE session, since I can't get back in rig...

Re: need help migrating to KDE v3.3.1: update

Quoted Original von mart_k Quoted Original von belliott4488 What do I need to do to get my panel items? The panel items are stored in ~/.kde/share/apps/kicker/. I don't know exactly how removed items are stored. [edit]I think that applets that are not removed are stored in ~/.kde/share/config/kickerrc, because there is a list there with kicker-buttons.[/edit] I've copied both the ~/.kde/share/apps/kicker/ directory and the ~/.kde/share/config/kickerrc file to the new location, so that seems oka...

Re: need help migrating to KDE v3.3.1: update

Okay, things have gone partially successfully. I start up KDEv3.3 and now come up with my standard wallpapers, sounds, and so forth. But ... I have only some panel items: only two of the seven application icons that I keep there, no taskbar, and most importantly, no KDE Application Starter menu. When I copied files from my ~/.kde menu (for v.3.1) to the new ~/.kdetest menu (for v3.3), I added the .kde/share/aplnk-redhat/ directory, since it had not existed at all in the new share/ directory - th...

Re: need help migrating to KDE v3.3.1

Thanks, mart_k. Since I followed the Konstruct instructions under my normal user id, I now have two .kde directories in my home directory: my default directory for v3.1 and a new test directory for v3.3. The intent was to leave my v3.1 installation unchanged until I've verified that v3.3 is working correctly. My question had to do with whether I can safely copy configuration files from my default ~/.kde directory to the new ~./kde3.3.1 directory. It sounds as if this will be okay, from your resp...

need help migrating to KDE v3.3.1

I've been running KDE v3.1-13, which came with my Red Hat 9.0 installation, for over a year, and now I'd like to upgrade to v3.3.1. I used Konstruct to build it and took their advice, installing it in ~/kde3.3.1. It seems to start up okay, but now I'd like to test it out a bit before migrating completely. Rather than going to the trouble of recreating all the settings from my v3.1 installation, I'm hoping just to copy files from the v3.1 directory tree into the v3.3.1 tree, so that I can do a re...
