NEW THREAD "What is Your Favourite Distro?"

Slackware 9.1 for me installed it for the same reason as TheOneBeyond it's not exactly 9.1 anymore. it's got kde 3.3.1 and this brings a lot of upgrades with it samba 3.0.7 kernel 2.6.5 and 2.4.27 (2.6 sometimes is kind of a bitch)

qt-3.3 install help

is that how you did it? ./configure && make? even if that had worked, you wouldn't be able to compile kde. see the instalation manual for the correct configure args to ./configure. however, i also tried to build qt on my own and i failed miserably, but that came from wrong prefix arg and so i always got errors compiling kde. then i used the binpackage (slackware) and i found out that's the better way, because make install will not give you everything you need. it gives you libraries but there is...

configure problems building kde 3.3.1

30 views and no reply. i guess that's a rare problem. i did not solve it. i just compiled kdenetwork with these warnings and it seems to work fine. there were no errors during compilation.

hello world! i've been building kde 3.3.1 and i kept running in to warnings when executing configure. it's always stuff like configure: WARNING: linux/tcp.h: found but cannot be compiled. it also says tcp.h checking usability ... no tcp.h presense ...yes back when compiling kdelibs and base i could make these warnings go away by installing dependencies, running ldconfig, reating some symlinks but this time i'm in trouble. i get the same warning for if_ppp.h these files all do exist and i did com...

Is it hard to install KDE 3.3?

that depends on how old your distribution is. if you have to upgrade a really large part of your system just to be albe to compile the dependencies mentioned on the kde-homepage you should not do it.

and where exactly is your problem? ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/qt [opther options] make make isntall INSTALL_ROOT=/tmp/qt-3.3.3 then you change to /tmp/qt-3.3.3 and make a package out of it (don't know how to do it with mandrake) and install it worked for me what about the mandrake package provided at trolltech.org?
