Kalendar is always over-written by Palm when syncing

Kpilot, Kontact and Kalendar all seem to work fine and synchronising seems to work very reliably. My "to do" list synchronises fine .... but if I enter an event into the kalendar on the PC then it will disappear without trace after syncing. If I create an entry in the Palm diary then it will sync correctly. What is the likely cause please?
