Mmmmhhh... I was going to shout 'DCOP!'... Still, DCOP should do the trick. I don't use Kate, so I don't know it's DCOP interface, but there should be a command in there to focus a window, I guess... Just try some more... And use kdcop, so at least you won't have to type all the commands.
Hi Admiral, Could you be a bit more specific? What would you like to convert your PDFs to? The PDF spec is an open standard, so PDFs can be converted to almost anything... Rob
Hi Phil, I don't know anything about Gnome, so I can't tell you what the differences are in how Gnome supports a keyboard and how KDE does it. You may wish to keep this page as a last resort. It's a page where I describe how I got my keyboard supported in KDE. There may be easier solutions, though... Cheers, Rob
Hi Kristjan, As a new moderator team, we're still discussing what changes this forum needs. The design is one of the things we spoke about. So, for now: please be patient, and remember: you're here for the info, not for the design... Cheers, Rob
Thank you, vdicarlo. I'm sure I speak for the whole team when I say it has been our pleasure.
You can just drop 'm there, no problem. Rob
Hi Brunnogama, What you could try is start Kopete from the command line (konsole), then type '/media' in the message field, hit the Send button, and see whether error messages appear in your konsole. Rob
Brando, Maybe you're right. But on the other hand: what could be a good reason not to have such strong passwords? Rob
Don't panic, Admiral, don't panic. We'll get you there... First this: in any KDE application, if you ever want to know what application you are using, or what version it is, find the Help option in your menu and select about. There are 2 abouts in your Help menu: 1 for KDE and 1 for the application. Now, back to your question. If it is indeed kcontrol (KDE Control Center) you are using, I have already told you how to become root. If it is not kcontrol, shut down the application you have open, hi...
Admiral, Are you using KDE Control Center (I think you are)? In that case there should be a button Administrator Mode at the bottom of the window. When you hit that button, you will be asked for the root password. After giving the root password, the fields won't be shaded out anymore. Rob
Hi Dag, Go to 'Settings -> Configure KMail -> Accounts -> Receiving -> [your IMAP account] -> Modify' and check 'Automatically compact folders (expunges deleted messages)'. This should do the trick. Rob
Thank you, Ingo. But this probably means FreakGuard is using kdeinit from KDE3 as well, because dcopserver is started, and why would kdeinit4 start dcopserver if dcopserver is not used by KDE4. And if I understand correctly, the apps are also trying to connect to DCOP, so the apps may not be KDE4 as well... FreakGuard, to me it looks like your KDE4 install is incomplete. Ingo, what do you think?
I don't have any experience with ArchLinux nor KDEmod4, but one thing draws my attention here: Quoted from "FreakGuard" /opt/kde/bin/dcopserver KDEDIR=/opt/kdemod KDEDIRS=/opt/kdemod:/opt/kdemod Could it be a version problem? I'm just thinking out loud here, and I'll see if I can find some more, but this may be relevant...
Hi RealNC, To narrow our search down a little: what protocol were you using (ICQ, MSN, etc.)? Rob
Hi FreakGuard, Could you post the output of these commands: Source code 1 2 3 $ ps aux | grep -i dcop $ dcop --list-sessions --all-users $ env | sort Especially in the output of the last command: please, filter out all irrelevant lines. Also, the file ${HOME}/.xsession-errors may hold some additional info. Rob Edit: One more command, just to be sure Source code 1 $ find ${HOME} -name "*DCOP*" -exec ls -l {} \; Don't forget to include the backslash-semicolon.
This tool should have been available before KDE4 was released... I think this is typical for OSS: no planning...
Quoted from "neverendingo" Did you already try to switch to the traditional menu inside kde4? I think that's KDE4's biggest strategic error: it forces things upon us... I think there should not be a need to spend time finding out how to switch to behaviour you're used to. After installation, KDE4 should go out of it's way to mimic the look and feel of the version that was installed before; users have spent time configuring it... Then, on first login after installation, a run-once could be execu...
Hi Joe, This page may be of help. It's a document I created about getting my laptop's keyboard recognized, but it should also point you in the right direction for attaching actions to your mouse buttons (an input device = an input device). Cheers, Rob
In a newly created line, the end of the is the beginning of the line, so this sounds like a bug to me. I guess the best you can do, is file a bug report. Rob
