KDE-Forum.org with new style

I don't like it much. The top bar is not that usefull and in my opinion would be better as a sidebar. What about that top bar that was supposed to integrate all KDE related sites? The forum logo creates a lot of wasted space tat is added to the space taken by site global navigation, "Post Reply", etc. The graphics need more contrast imo.They are to smooth. Oh! if I look in the bottom of the page I see that the layout is not correctly alligned. I mean that the lines make something like "----____-...

Problems Moving kmail to New PC

I never understood that problem (meaning that the same happened to me). Addictionaly when I cliked some message the subject disappeared and everything I got was "Unknown Subject" or the like. So I use mostly dIMAP now. Ok, you can try to create a new folder and change the type to mbox. Copy the messages you want to that folder. Copy the mbox file to you new machine and the import the mbox file with "Tools->Import Messages". That's because KMail can only import mbox files or plain the messages.

Installing firefox

It seams you just need a more recent version of glibc (>=glibc-2.3.2) as said in Firefox System Requirements. You can also look at the Bug Discussion. It seams that someone posted a pack without installer (see comment #15) but it is also said that the problem no longer exists in the latest build.

Kopete empty settings

That happened to me also with Gentoo. It affected most things, not only Kopete. For example Kontact showed an empty screen also instead of summary. How did you install it? I think that in my case not everything was installed or the applications were installed with a wrong prefix. Anyway...I didn't solved the situation. I've changed distribution and the packages installed correctly there. Try seeing if an update is available to you.

kmail won't send any email

Another suggestion... When I used Fedora Core 1 I managed software with apt-get. There is also a site dedicated to promote KDE in the Red Hat/Fedora. They have an apt-get (an now yum too) repository and they correct some issues of KDE in the Fedora platform (I think). Visit http://kde-redhat.sourceforge.net/ and try to update KDE from them. Their stable KDE is 3.3.1 so you also get the latest KDE ;-)

Expand taskbar as required to fit contents.

Hi, I'm using kde 3.3 and the behaviour I have is exactly what you want. First make sure that you are using an External Taskbar and not the Taskbar Applet. You can add the External Taskbar in "Panel Menu->Add->Panel->External Taskbar" and configure it like any other panel. I currently use the TaskBar applet and it behaves like you said. It fills all free space available but does not try to acquire more space and if the panel as a Expand to fit contents policy then it will never expand.

login in Gnome... :(

Short answer: Yes. Fedora has some system configuration tools. I don't know if it has one to help you here. In FC1 they were called redhat-config-<module> but the name could have changed. Look in KMenu for those tools. Look for one related to "Login Screen" or "X Configuration". If that tools does not exist you have to change some system configuration manually. Just follow the fedora tip: [code:1]bash# echo 'DESKTOP="KDE"'> /etc/sysconfig/desktop bash# echo 'DISPLAYMANAGER="KDE"' >> /etc/sysconf...

Kopete Text Formatting toolbar not usable

Some protocols like ICQ don't support "rich text". So the toolbar is disabled. NOTE: It could also be that kopete does not support text formating for those protocols.

KMail Folder List

Check if the panel isn't simply collapsed. I mean if there is still and handler near the left side that you can drag to the right to have the folders again. In any case you can try to reset the KMail configuration by deleting the file "~/.kde/share/config/kmailrc".

Getting progs to run at KDE startup so instead of manually

It's easy to miss non KDE related problems in this forums :-). Anyway I've never used autostart since KDE saves the desktop session and almost everything goes back to place.

x-window cut and paste

For what you are saying the text still goes to clipboard when you select it. Because as you described if you choose Paste from the menu it will be pasted. Maybe the problem is in the shortcuts. Probably you have a binding for the middle mouse button and that is affecting the default X copy-paste behaviour.

Getting progs to run at KDE startup so instead of manually

Normally lisa and cups are started by the base system and not KDE because the are independent services. So you should try to make a link from your current runlevel to the lauch script in /etc/init.d. In more detail you should look in /etc/init.d for scripts like lisa and cups. Then try to run them like "/etc/init.d/lisa start" and see if the work. Then look at /etc/initab a line like "id:2:initdefault:". In this case the number is your default runlevel. After knowing your default runlevel you co...

Running an application without it in the taskbar...

In the Window Specific settings you can choose among other things options like "Skip Pager" and "Skip Taskbar". You can choose what windows this affects (window class + window type + title + host + etc) but this is still window specific. If an applications has lots of windows I think that it's best to use what cmbofh said.

Gentoo KDE 3.2 -> KDE 3.3

Well I was kind of desperate so right after this post I did a [code:1]cp -vru /usr/kde/3.2/* /usr/kde/3.3/[/code:1] Things started to work after this. Seams nice now. I don't expect that the logout will be fixed because it's probably a X problem. I dind't tried yet because if it's not fixed it will force me to reboot.

Gentoo KDE 3.2 -> KDE 3.3

Hi, I have several problems that are related with the rest of the updates I made but I experience them all through KDE. I've emerged KDE 3.3 from KDE 3.2 and got this: - Kopete show not plugins, configuration screen is empty (really empty, just a window with nothing in there except the wizard buttons) - Kontact is also empty, it is just kontact without integrating other apps - Icons sets disappered (only have Crystal) - Styles and windows (plastik disappered) - Screensavers (Just have Black and ...

Konstruct: what happens if it fail to build?

I used Konstruct to test KDE 3.2. I used a PII 300Mhz and it took a day. I don't know relative compile speeds between G++ versions but if it was an huge difference I got concerned about that particular version. If you choose one of the meta packages from Konstruct it installs everything you need including qt with patches and so. You're right, kdelibs go first but I don't expect kdebase to fail if kdelibs install properly. Maybe thats my problem ;-). Well, as I sayed, I installed KDE 3.2. I had K...

Who Am I ???

Look in the Control Center. The start page tells what you want and other information about your system. If you look unde the System section you can even configure some information like the user name in the system (at least in a non knoppix-like system).
