Significant performance loss with kde 3.2

Quoted Has KDE adopted the windows-strategy, where you need to buy new hardware everytime you get a new version? I don't think so, some people says that kde3.2 is faster than kde3.1, I am not quite sure, I believe they are as fast. But I haven't run any benchmark. You may try to delete (or move) your ~/.kde directory and try to see if kde is running faster. In fact it's a good idea to have a fresh config directory after an upgrade.

Whose bright idea??..

If you do not intend to use sound with kde applications, you may want to disable the sound system in the control center. But if you wish to keep it, you can try to put "0s" in the auto-suspend field, if I understand well what it is said, it should give up the exclusive control.

Problem with installing kdelibs

What version of QT are you using ? QT3.3 is not supported by KDE, and I remember having trouble when compiling kdelibs with QT3.3. If you are using QT3.3, you can either patch kdelibs, either downgrade to QT3.2.

KMail IMAP filters - do they actually work?

I am not using IMAP, but I think it works the same way, and it works fine on my computer. When you create a filter, you can chose whether it should be applied to incoming message or not. Maybe the option "apply to incoming message" is not checked. Maybe it's not problem, and it's a bug.

Flash plugin

You have to go in "Settings > Configure Konqueror", and in the pugins section, check that the directory (on gentoo it is /usr/lib/nsbrowser/plugins/, if you don't know the directory try to search libflashplayer.so) where is installed the flashplayer is in the scan folder section. Click on "Scan for new plugins", and then check that it appears in the plugins list.

Making mozilla the default browser

I don't think Mozilla can be a file browser, as for the web, you can go in Settings > Configure Conqueror, and then select "File Association", and in text/html, you can put mozilla as first program to open html files.
