Display Plasmoids only on Dashboard

Strange, maybe suse patched or disabled it. But i thought that it was reenabled in KDE4.1. Or are you running 4.0.x?

Display Plasmoids only on Dashboard

No, a left click is enough, and then the room around the cashew will expand with some items.

How to add a new calendar ???

It may be somewhat hidden, as it was for me. Strange default. On the left side there is the pane with the overview and journal entries. Now, under that you can click with your mouse and drag it up. Then there comes a "new" widget with your calendars. And now you can add new ones....

KDE4 - The Konsole Profiles Applet

You need to open Konsole, and then Settings -> Manage Profiles. There you can add new profiles according to your needs.

Display Plasmoids only on Dashboard

hehe, you don't need to. It's not very visible atm. in the upper right corner, when you click in it, you have the option to "zoom out". Now you have an overview of your current activities. Should be 1 for you. Now when click again on the little cashews in the corner you have the option "add activity". And when you added another activity, you can do "zoom in" and then change the activities with the above mentioned keyboard shortcuts. Btw., you can even have different wallpapers for your activitie...

Display Plasmoids only on Dashboard

Well, i don't know if this is planned for future releases, but till now it is not possible. Actually the Dashboard IS the desktop, "Show Dashboard" only moves the desktop to the front, so you can work with your widgets. But maybe here is a workaround, that could fix your needs. Add another activity, then add another set of widgets to that new activity. That way you can switch between the activitys (Ctrl+SHIFT+P or N) to see your different widget sets.

Well, it is on the way, the devs are currently working on that, so this feature will get back soon, so stay tuned.

QT3 wrapper to make KDE3 applications look like KDE4?

No, currently there is no way, Oxygen relies on Qt4, and KDE3 uses Qt3, that's incompatible.

RE: Small yet very annoying UI design inconveniences (kwrite konsole, kmix, plasma)

Quoted from "robertp" I recently started using KDE 4 and came across some UI design inconveniences. They may seem unimportant for many people but fixing them will improve user experience. Here's a list of them: Kate: native tabs supportfile browser/tree on left side of application window (dock?)tabs switching using easy shortcut (Alt+nr) Hmm, i don't understand the second point, it's already there. Are you using kate or kwrite? First point, i am not sure if that is necessary if you have the sid...

Statically Linked Mac KDE Apps

Well, i am not comfortable with the Mac and KDE (though i would want to ), but i guess the packages for download are already build. So you only need to install them. If you want to have konsole, it's in the kdebase package. But be sure to watch the dependencies.

The top panel.

If you mean with the widget dialog, works for me. But to be sure, you can drag& them onto the top panel. At least that should work.

Effecient usage of panel space - two rows, smaller buttons, ....

It is not possible for now, but work is going on. You can actually add panels, but when you move a new panel to the bottom, the new one is before the old one. But be sure that this will be worked out. Btw., why is your clock needing too much space with date on? for it doesn't, the date is only under the time, no more space used.

KMail and reply to list

No, no way to change it ATM. But maybe you could use the shortcuts, for "Replay to Author" it is Shift+A. Hope that helps.

Plasma

We seem to get to a point like "gnome vs. kde", but now it's "kde3 vs. kde4". And that's not what should happen. At first, 3.5.x will be maintained for quite a long time. So you don't need to stick to kde4. Really. Stay at 3.x if you feel more comfortable with it. That's okay. And if you even prefer another DE that's okay, too. Stick to your needs. Plasma is a VERY young technology, and it will mature, that's for sure. But it is also for sure a new way of handling things. And that is the real po...

RE: toggling keyboard maps on-the-fly?

Quoted from "b3zdomny" I would like to be able to toggle back and forth between keyboard maps on-the-fly while within a particular application. Specifically, I would like to toggle between Cyrillic and Latin characters within a single IRC session. As it is, I must toggle the keyboard to the desired map, *then* open desired application, and cannot toggle between maps while within that application. This situation simply won't work in chat with English-speaking Russian friends in IRC as I'm learni...

KDE 4 (SVN) eps file previews not working

The output from debugging on current trunk leads me to this: Source code 1 2 3 kio_thumbnail(11875) ThumbnailProtocol::get: Wanting MIME Type: "image/x-eps" kio_thumbnail(11875) ThumbnailProtocol::get: using thumb creator for the thumbnail kio_thumbnail(11875) ThumbnailProtocol::get: Guess plugin: "textthumbnail" So there seems to be an error in the file association. So go to Konqueror ->Settings -> Configure Konqueror -> File Associations, search for x-eps. And then in the "Embedding" tab, add ...
