Turn off print just print job notifications in KDE 4.7.4 with HPLIP

I've done it before, but I just can't find it again. Where is the setting that will turn off all notifications related to print jobs (printing with hplip/CUPS) without turning off all application notifications. I have two users on my notebook and I got it to work for one, but can't remember what I did so I can set up the other user. KDE 4.7.4 with hplip and CUPS (kubuntu oneiric). TIA Joe

Reinstalling/repairing KDE

I have an old notebook (HP Centrino Duo 1.66GHz) which has been running kubuntu Lucid - KDE 4.4.5 for a long time. Recently the hinge broke and took the (widescreen) display with it. Now I have it connected to an old 4:3 external monitor. That worked fine for awhile, but, recently, KDE stopped working. When I login, it displays the splash screen. The first two icons fade into view then the next two either show up correctly or stop half faded in. The last one, the large KDE icon doesn't show up a...

kde version

Forgot to add that I'm using kde 4.4.5 on kubuntu lucid x86. (I tried to edit the original post, but the forum php code threw a fatal error.)

Finding entries in the kickoff classic style menu

I just installed a new package. It probably added an entry to the kde application launcher menu, but I don't see it. I use kdemenuedit (and know how to add entires manually, etc.), but it doesn't seem to have a search feature. Is there a way to search the menu to find particular entries? Sometimes, I want to edit them, copy them to my desktop or panel, or move them into another subfolder. I did some Googling and found that the menu is called kickoff and it has its own menu style that includes a ...

"Appear on all desktops" option for plasmoids

I've seen this mentioned before elsewhere, but thought it should be here as well. The idea of having each desktop be different is an old one. It's good that kde can do it. I want to have different wallpapers and icons on each desktop and that works. But, I have one panel on the bottom of my desktop that has a bunch of things configured in it. It's my focal point for coordinating everything that's happening on my computer. What I want is a checkbox/option for the panel plasmoid that says "appear ...

Ability to search KDE Manuals/Help

Not sure where the best place to post this is, so here goes: I've been using kde for several years and I really like it. I have one major peeve with it. Maybe I've missed something, but I know of no (effective) way to search any kde application manual for an answer. The search function I have found works only on the current page. That's nearly useless because almost all the pages are very short. Reverting to Google/site: search, etc. is also less than stellar because all the manuals are stored i...

Is this message board dead?

I recently posted a couple of questions here. I felt kind of frustrated about getting no replies, but upon further review, it appears that no one has gotten an answer to anything for a year - not even a bad answer! What's the point of forum feedback if no one is listening? Hey, I know that almost all free/open software runs mainly on goodwill and true believers (I'm one), but if no one has the time/inclination to support this small branch, it would be decent for someone to say so. Posting a New Feature Request

Where's the best place to post a general request (not tied to a particular release)? I don't see a general enhancements/requests forum. Where do the developers read posts? Is there something like bugzilla? This particular request is for a new optional behavior for a window. The concept is different enough from existing behavior so that even if it were enthusiastically received, I wouldn't expect to see anything for several releases. Joe TIA Joe

korganizer - Using a script with a reminder

I tend to need early reminders for important events so I often set up events with reminders the morning of the event and one and two days in advance. When korganizer displays a reminder for an event, i find it hard to read. I want to see the day name of the event (like "Today", "Tomorrow", or "Next Wednesday") and the name of the event (or be able to specify a custom image - that would be great). Instead, it tells me when the original event was scheduled (many of my events are recurring events a...

Partially fixed

Using gnome, I went into system settings->appearance->fonts and selected force 96 dpi. Now, when I log into kde the fonts are fine. The remaining problem is that the login splash screen still has the huge fonts and is unreadable. Help with this would be appreciated. TIA Joe

Unusable kde fonts from upgrade from kubuntu jaunty to karmic

I just upgraded from kubuntu jaunty to karmic. During the process, I go a message about missing fonts, but didn't have a working Internet connection to let it get what it needed. Now, when I start kde, the default font appears to be larger than 60 points making the whole desktop completely unusable (so I can't fix anything from within kde.) During user login, I can select gnome and it has no problem, so I can get in and edit things, etc. Where can I find a configuration file, etc. that will let ...

Opaque taskbar/panel

I hope this is an appropriate place to post this. The kde-look forum seems largely inactive. I set my panel/"taskbar" to autohide to free up desktop space. Because of this, it comes up over random backgrounds - especially status bars of other windows and that makes it very hard to read. What can I do to make the whole thing (taskbar, panel, etc.) have an opaque background? Currently, I am using the oxygen theme, kde 4.2.2, kubuntu jaunty. I like it, but could switch to another one if it fixes th...

Printing odd/even pages

I'm a noobie at this, but from what I understand, the way to do this "would" be to use kprinter. Too bad it doesn't work with kde 4.x (because it needs a rewrite which depends on qt development that may or may not happen any time soon). I would guess that (qt ...) is the same reason why other kde 4 applications can't do it either. If you want to do it "manually", there's a great little gui utility called xpp that will do lots of tricks including what you want to a file that's been printed to dis...
