I borked KDE4. Get black screen now.

Hello All! Well, looks like I borked KDE4. Basically, all I did was update to the latest version like I have been doing all along. I am running Debian Unstable. The version I upgraded to was 4:4.0.84-1. The update seemed to have gone fine. No errors. Nothing removed. Nothing odd. But when I try and start it now, I get the loading screen. It shows the harddrive and then poof... black screen. I let it sit for 10-20 minutes but still black screen. I can only see the mouse. I have to Ctrl+Alt+Backsp...

Mouse - Right Click issue

Wow. Hopefully that will work out for you. I can't wait for 4.1 when these pesky bugs will be behind us.

Mouse - Right Click issue

I am having the exact same problem. It is extremely annoying. I think it was an update that broke it.

RE: Kde 4

Quoted Originally posted by zero_schezard I'm sorry, but this "Will always be problems" isn't going to work. Enlightenment (CVS version) is pretty more stable than KDE4, and the developers insist that E is still Alpha. KDE4 doesn't nearly have half of the features of KDE3, it is slow with "desktop (d)effects", and it's buggy (on my PC, when I logout and login again, my widgets and even the taskbar just disappears - I need to remove ~/.kde folder). And, it's "stable", as the developers say. And,...

RE: Kde 4

Quoted Originally posted by tekwyzrd KDE 4.0 was a RELEASE VERSION that took over 2 years of development so there shouldn't BE any problems. It is an UPGRADE from 3.5.x that eliminates functionality and configuration options. I wish people like you would take off the blinders and rose-colored glasses and admit that KDE4 WASN'T READY FOR RELEASE. The fact that it's still missing features and buggy means it's still ALPHA and not ready for general release. I think SUSE and the other distributions ...

Kde 4

I have been using KDE 4 as my main Desktop Environment since it was released and have not looked back. Sure, there many problems still but people should have known that going in. All in all, I am NOT disappointed. I like the direction it is headed. You will get all your features back that made KDE 3 so great. You just have to have patience.

RE: Reality Check for 4.0 Developers

Again, isn't it premature to call it an error at this point in time? I mean, do we even have proof to back that up? Have polls been taken with potential users in a business setting? Also, KDE 4 is still in the very early stages yet.

RE: Reality Check for 4.0 Developers

Well... They are given the choice of using 3.5.X or 4.0 so i really don't see the problem. And if a business uses KDE 3.5.X right now, I seriously doubt they will have any/many problems adjusting to 4.1. I think most of your complaints are premature and have yet to be justified.

RE: Installation Problems

From what i can tell, you may not have permission to your /home directory anymore. I found these two links that may help. They are from other forums so you may have to dig through them. Call to lnusertemp (temporary directories full?) Call to lnusertemp (temporary directories full?)

RE: Now I understand....

I agree to an extent. I don't think it is stupid or foolish to release it now under KDE 4.0 instead of a release canidate. If they constantly did release canidates, it will never get finished because only the people who like testing and taking risks would install it. Since it was released, they have had tons of bugs filed which will only make it better. Additionally, it is only being released on selected live cds and/or added repos. Its not like you are forced to upgrade. Seems quite a few peopl...

RE: Taskbar accidentally removed from panel how do I get it back?

Yea. It works for me I just did it a bit ago too. You have to drag from the widget list though. If you just add the widget to the desktop and try to drag it from there, it won't work. Hope this install works out better for you

The Panel disappears [Solved]

Ok. It may run fine for a bit. Maybe a few hours. But seemingly out of the blue, the whole panel at the bottom disappears. No matter how many times i restart, it will still be gone. Only remedy is to delete the .kde4 folder. The first time it happened, i had just finished watching a DVD and closed Kaffeine and it disappeared. The second time, it seemed out of the blue. I may or may not have closed Opera the second time. I do not remember. The only thing i did notice was something odd at startup ...

RE: Taskbar accidentally removed from panel how do I get it back?

Alternatively, I believe you can open up the widgets list and drag that wiget from the the list to the taskbar at the bottom. I ran into the same problem and that was my solution.
