Spybot - Search and Dystroy

Don't take this as instruction or advice.. but few linux users use anti-spyware or anti-virus software. The nature of the system it's self makes it hard to get infected. Search google for things like "does linux need antispyware" or stuff like that, check with the documentation or dev team of your distrobution, and then make up your own mind. Kev

RE: First Impression Gripes!

Quoted Originally posted by regx As for the new menu, it will take some getting used to. Currently it feels much more cumbersome and less efficient than the old menu. Is it possible to choose between the two? If you install the package extragear-plasma you get some more widgets. One of them is a traditional menu that if you drag directly from the widgets menu to your panel will install a more traditional KMenu on your panel. You can then right click the old one and "remove" it. This gives you a...

Now I understand....

The KDE team has not been secretive at all about how 4.0.0 was going to be a limited release. It is just the basis of what KDE 4 is going to be. They have been saying this for ages... I know you may not have been following it but maybe you can check out what they've been saying before you jump on them? If you really need a mature solid product then KDE 3.5.8 is your ticket. KDE4.0.0 may not be mature yet (how could it be???) but it is solid enough to run. I've got it running on both my systems a...

RE: Taskbar accidentally removed from panel how do I get it back?

Quoted Originally posted by Someguyouknow Yea. It works for me I just did it a bit ago too. You have to drag from the widget list though. If you just add the widget to the desktop and try to drag it from there, it won't work. AAAAH!!!! I didn't try that. I will though! cool! Kev

KDE4 - the great disappointment

There are a couple of rough spots (they did make this clear to us over and over again so it's really no shock) but I'm VERY VERY VERY impressed! It's FAST, looks good, and appears to be headed towards the future. IE they are thinking ahead as they do things now. Menu sucks... there's nothing else to say about it.. it's pretty and all but it makes a simple thing like navigating a menu and makes it work.... Other than that - Good show guys! Let's get 4.1 out ASAP. Kev

RE: No synaptic or Adept on install

You installed from the LiveCD right? I fell for the same thing... the LiveCD is not an "install" CD. They really should make that clear... I spent hours downloading it... you've got to go the way of installing Kubuntu 7.10 and then adding the repo for KDE4 and installing it that way. www.kubuntu.org for more info. Kev

RE: Taskbar accidentally removed from panel how do I get it back?

Quoted Originally posted by Someguyouknow Alternatively, I believe you can open up the widgets list and drag that wiget from the the list to the taskbar at the bottom. I ran into the same problem and that was my solution. You're the first person to suggest that this works for them. On all the other forums people are saying that's broken. It didn't work for me... I'm actually re-installing because I killed my hdd... doh! Kev

RE: Turn off (disable) an External Taskbar?

Quoted Originally posted by RedEmu I have a similar problem.. With my awesome mouse skills I have managed to remove the taskbar out of the panel at the bottom and can't for the life of me figure out how to get it back. I can see how to manage panels with applets in kde 3.5 but for the life of I can't where to configure the panel in kde 4. Cheers -- RedEmu I just did the exact same thing..... doh! And I can't figure out how to get it back either... Kev

KDE 4 as Windows Shell

I'd suggest giving Kubuntu a try. The repos have nearly every Linux software binary you can imagine... so installing and running things is really not a problem. www.kubuntu.org You can even grab a KDE 4 LiveCD here http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/releases/gutsy/kde4/ Kev

KDE First Impressions

KDE4.0.0 is FAST! Blazing fast! I intend on installing it on my laptop this weekend. It's been chugging under Kubuntu Gutsy. Other than some issues with the new KMenu I'm really liking it! As for the names of programs starting with K. Believe me it's a NICE thing because it shows that it works with KDE. This may not be as much of an issue with KDE4, I read something about how Gnome apps will work better now. But currently at least, knowing that a program has been designed to work with KDE is big...
