Desktop icons on KDE4

Then right click on the desktop, configure desktop and untick 'show icons'. Then come back out. Also I always select 'lock widgets' as well and my desktop stays as it is set manually by me. Didn't the settings in the 'Session Manager' work then? That is strange as mine works when set to 'Restore Manually Saved Settings'. TG

How to make KDE4 back to defaults?

Try this I am not saying it will work, but hey! worth a try. Go to System Settings, then click on the Advanced Tab. Now select 'Session Manager' then select and click on 'Start with an empty session' and also click on either 'Turn off Computer' or 'Restart Computer' then click on Apply. Now come right out of KDE4 by restarting your computer. You should theoretically have a clean desktop where you can now place on it your widgets and icons and apps onto the task bar. However, once you have done t...

KDE 4 - is it just me...

You have to alter the System Settings and how the comp starts after you have logged out. So go to System Settings, then click on Advanced Tab, then click on Session Manager. Change the 'On Login settings to 'Restore Manually Saved Session, then save this. Now log out, restart comp and then see if your settings that you made are back again. The session settings are at this point in time quite complicated and I still haven't sussed quite how they work as regards the Desktop settings that you set u...

KDE 4 - is it just me...

I've got my apps on the task bar (panel) here is how to do it. Just open the Menu, navigate to the app that you want on the taskbar (panel) eg Firefox, or Kopete, etc, right click on the app select 'add to panel' and voila! your apps icon will appear! Repeat for any other apps that you might want to include. For example I have on my panel Adept, home folder, ksnapshot, Pidgin, Thunderbird, and Firefox. You can now access any app with one click on its icon. TG

Now I understand....

Yes me too! I have it running on Kubuntu and OpenSuse and I love it, and I am an old granma who has only been using Linux for the last year! I know that it isn't finished, but as anyone at MS will tell you, it isn't until the 'real users' get their hands on it that all the bugs and problems really surface! I am now using it and filing problems to the KDE guys, that's my way of helping them get this brilliant desktop perfect because I sure can't program or write software, but I can test and bug f...

KDE4 loading incorrectly?

Go into System Settings, then select 'Desktop' from the settings window in 'look and feel. You will then be in Desktop Effects where under my Kubuntu installation, all are ticked. Then you can click on the All Effects Tab to set different Effects for your windows on the desktop. (One of mine under Kubuntu is 'Fall Apart' which is quite funny, every time you close a window it breaks up into little pieces! Hope this helps and can you post back please to let me know if yours is working in KDE4 in O...

Desktop Effects not working under OpenSuse

David wonder if you can help me with my little problem. I too am running OpenSuse 10.3 and after reading your post I installed it from where you said. Installed okay, but I can't get the Desktop window effects to work. If I go into Desktop then Desktoop Effects, all are greyed out and I get this feedback Composting is not supported on your system. Required X extension (XComposite and XDamage) are not available. My Graphics card is the Nvidia Geforce 7300 LE and I have installed the latest driver...

KDE4 display/compositing problem, I think

Well I have a problem with my KDE4 set up in OpenSuse 10.3. Dowloaded the latest nvidia driver first but when I try to set up the windows effects in Desktop settings, they are greyed out and I get this Composition is not supported on your system. required Xextensions (Xcomposite and XDamage) are not available. Yet KDE4 is running WITH all the window effects on a Kubuntu install of KDE4 using the same Nvidia Geforce 7300 LE graphics card, so what do I have to do to enable the same running under O...

Reporting Bugs in KDE4 - How?

Thanks for that Alecs1 have now found it and I am also now able to save backtraces (well the plasma one just let me save it) The problems that I was having with the wallpaper not saving I and the RSS feed not saving my RSS feeds that I had added seem to have been fixed by my going into the settings and choosing the option to save manual settings. (Don't ask me how I did this as I can't remember, but I found this setting and touch wood, since then my chosen wallpaper and RSS feeds have both been ...
