Challenge - reproduce this desktop in KDE4

Hello, I am really, really trying to go from KDE3 to KDE4. Still, I am so hooked on my customized desktop that I simply cannot make the step unless I can reproduce my colors, layout and favorite apps on KDE4. So - here's a screenshot of my desktop. Nothing fancy, if you take a look. Maybe that's why I cannot make it look the same way in KDE4? I cannot attach a file larger than 20K? TWENTY ? K s ? http://ubuntuforums.org/attachment.php?a…=1&d=1267109724 Anyone who thinks that can help me with thi...

What KDE needs for going UP

Thank you for taking the time for answering point by point in a very clear way, Ollie. Sorry I didn't mention: I am talking about KDE 3.5.9. You made clear about some points, so let's resume on the ones that I still have something to say. And please keep in mind that the main issue is integration, unity of design, functional specification and implementation, not solving issues point by point. 1) Folder sharing - seems i'm not the only one 2) Folder size view - I know about it being accessible th...

What KDE needs for going UP

One thing which I forgot: why can't I set the size of the icons in the system tray applet to any size I want and have them automatically rearrange (or not) in several rows depending on their size (I think because the time was spent thinking about plasmoids)? Did you see how nice and small and neat they are on Windows? And PRACTICAL, especially when they are many and I don't want to hide them. And not to mention the office and productivity applications and their integration within the DE, which i...

What KDE needs for going UP

Hello, I am a long time user of KDE. After a short evaluation of KDE 4.X, I lost my interest in it. I find incredibly awkward the direction where KDE is heading to. I think that KDE is not the only DE which goes the same route. Please remember I'm expressing my personal ideas; I am just a user, but please READ and COMMENT. 1) Widget/plasmoids are nice, but I don't NEED THEM. WHO does? 2) Look&feel is important, but not my number one. 3) The fact that I have the same wallpaper on all the desktops...

I will keep posting

Hi, i'll update this thread everytime I am trying more on this topic. I did create a new action, I associated a mouse gesture with it, I enabled mouse gestures. Still, the first thing which i notice is that the right button pressed is still working. Now, I would not expect that if mouse gestures are really enabled. Could someone please confirm which is the IMPLEMENTED behavior for a right-button-pressed? I would really like to use them, but I already spent the time I could have saved in a whole ...

No mouse gestures whatsoever

Sorry for being so lame, but I couldn't set up the simplest mouse gesture ever: right button PRESSED + movement down = close the window over which the gesture is performed. Could someone be so nice, please, as to provide a step by step (that interface in KControl is far from being the most intuitive one) guide on how to do that? Please note that I still talk about KDE MOUSE GESTURES (mouse gestures that trigger desktop actions), and not Konqueror(or any other application based) gestures. We all ...

Right Button Pressed-Released

There is one mouse event which is not at all used. I even don't understand how this flaw survived so long on almost every OS. This means the following: if you press the right button there is a menu displayed, and the type of this menu depends on where you do the right click/press: konqueror, desktop, text-editor, etc. Now, if you release the right-button guess what .... the menu stays (or dissapears, or whatever). There is to say ... two mouse events are used for more or less the same thing. Now...

Mouse gestures

Mouse gestures are a nice and especially ergonomic feature for many apps. Can't they be integrated to KDE too ? It would be REALLY GOOD to have some gestures for: close/minimize window, ALT-TAB, next/previuos workspace, etc. Is it a big job to do?
