KDE4 on the command line

As a newbie to KDE4 I'd like to kick off a thread that collects how one can make changes to KDE4's appearance and behaviour on the command line - ranging from kdm-kde4 and its appearance to changing the desktop itself. For KDE3, documentation was hard to come by and it took me absolute ages to gather it all... So, if any of you have a working KDE4 install and have found one config file or another, then please share your experiences. Many thanks in advance!

Line spacing in menus

Sorry for the long delay in replying and thanks for posting the screenshot. Now I know what you are talking about. However, I am not aware of any such settings - I take it you want to make the lines a little smaller so they fit into one column. My dirty workaround in this case: create some meta-folders for stuff you don't need so often, individual links that can be grouped together, etc. Sorry I cannot be of more help.

Login manager is disabled

I happen to know that the theme manager in Kubuntu Gutsy might as well not be there 'cos it all is capable of is ruining your kdmrc file. You on Gutsy? If so, uninstall the theme manager.

JuK and amaroK don't play MP3s

Sorry mate, can't help you 'cos I never ran Juk. Sounds like a Juk configuration problem. Only a suggestion, how about starting it from the command line. You will be able to see any errors it throws up when attempting to play MP3s.

Thanks alienator, good link for gdm, but is it 100% transferable to kdm? The files do appear very similar... BTW, I am trying to install a kth theme via the command line but find it absolutely impossible to get any documentation which rc files are involved. If anybody has come across any, please post...
