Open Suse and Kubuntu dual boot?

Ok, I have a couple of OS related Q's. I am not too sure if this is the correct place to post these so stick 'em where they belong if I'm wrong. I have just received an Open Suse 10.2 DVD through the post and am in a bit of a dilemma with regards to testing this distro. I have a fully operational Kubuntu Edgy on my laptop at the moment and have it looking and feeling just how I want for the time being. I first tried (K)Ubuntu in September of 2006 and soon after got rid of MS Windoze. I know enou...

re SMN window

Ok I get you. It is refered to as the SMN, Storage Media Notification window. I can get to configuring it via- Control Centre>Peripherals>Storage Media and once in there I can tell it what to display, ie, 'do nothing', 'play media with caffeine' etc etc. Does that help? You are able to choose from different mime types and stuff like that. I haven't tried myself but I think you can customize it to display different options for different types of removable media? For example, I found this on the U...

can't configure additional panels

I know the answer to this may be staring me in the face but I am stuck! Ok. If I add an extra panel or dock application bar etc, I can't configure it through the panel menu. The panel config window will only allow me to configure the main panel. I can drag an extra panel to any side of the screen and add applets and applications to it. When I right click it and open the panel config menu though it only lets me change the size, background, transparency etc of the first and main panel. The handboo...

re usb

What 'window' are you talking about? The device should be accessible in the 'storage media' folder if it has been plugged, detected, and mounted. Elaborate on your what you are looking for-it may help. dkaddict

usb mounting

hansb, I have been trying to solve the exact same problem with regards to flash drives for a while now. The 'hal daemon' is indeed responsible for the mounting of external devices. I have a 2gb fairly cheap and nasty mp3 device that has never 'hot plugged'. I know through my research that it is far better to have such a device formatted as fat16 as opposed to fat32. I can't recall why this is but will have another search for you. I have come across many different elements to the subject of hotpl...
