KDM log file

Thank you Bram, I asked several people around me, and it seems that in our old distribution (SLC3 based on RHEL3), kdm.log was not in the logrotate. Gdm neither, but this manager has an embedded system so that there is no need to use logrotate for it. So I'm going to use logrotate...

KDM log file

Hi there, I was wondering whether it was possible to control in any way the size of /var/log/kdm.log. I did not see any documentation on this topic and I know GDM is able to shrink the logs it makes. Does anyone have a clue? Thanx in advance,

RE: Another question on Konqui and fish

Thanx again Bram85. In the present case, I'm not the admin of the gateway and more over it's a farm of dozens of computers. Cannot know on which one I'll arrive when connecting. I'm going to kindly wait KDE4. Hope it will be quickly included in Fedora Core 7, and not on Fedora Core 8.

RE: Konqueror - Fish and RSA Key?

Quoted [...] it doesn't look like that I have root permissions to edit a file... [..] I had the same problem and Bram85 solved it. I used Kate in a wrong way: the edited file was downloaded in localhost:/var/tmp/... and my_user was not allowed to save in that directory (hence the message "unable to save"). It was a bit tricky! Actually, I had to edit the kate menu item in order to add "%U" (or "%u") after the command. It's located in the control center --> Desktop --> Panels --> Menus (tab) -->...

RE: Konqueror - Fish and RSA Key?

I'm not sure to perfectly understand your problem. You succeeded to fish from my_user@my_computer to my_user@my_server, but failed to fish from my_user@my_computer to root@my_server. Is that correct? If so, did you try directly from ssh: ssh -v root@my_server? Is there a clue in the verbose mode?

Another question on Konqui and fish

Hi there, From computer.home, I'd like to connect to computer.work. But this cannot be done directly as I need to go through server.work. So the first step is to fish from computer.home to server.work. But then I don't know how to fish from server.work to computer.work: When I try that, it's always from computer.home! So my question is: is it possible to work with fish as with ssh? I mean, login from A to B and then C, D... Thanx in advance for your advices, lights, ideas... Zorggy.

RE: Konqueror - Fish and RSA Key?

Hello Pixelhead, I'm a sys admin as well and have just discovered Konqui and Kate to manage remote nodes. As I've understood fish, it uses ssh. So if you use RSA keys and put the public one in /root/.ssh/authorized_keys file on each server you manage, then you will be able to remote log in as root from your own user without any password to give. And if you set Kate as the default editor, by double clicking a remote file in Konqui you can edit it as root and upload it automagically as you save. T...

RE: Admin with Konqueror and Kate

Hello Bram, Wow, you kill me! Your answer is simply perfect: First, I cannot change the distribution at work: it is Scientific Linux 4, based on Redhat Enterprise 4. Soon version 5 will appear, matter of months. Kate was not present in the K menu, that's why I've added it, simply. At home I've got (several ) Fedora Core 6 and it works fine when connecting between computers. There is a "%U" after the command in the K menu. So I tried to remove it and... same behavior as at work. So tomorrow I'll ...

Admin with Konqueror and Kate

Hi there, I've been using Konsole and ssh protocol to manage Linux computers for a long time. But I've just discovered Konqui and Kate and it seems to be interesting enough to give them a try. It is OK to connect to a computer using fish inside Konqui. It is OK to double-click on a file and edit it with Kate. But I cannot save (upload) the file. Actually Kate opens the file on the local computer as /var/tmp/kdecache-<username>/krun/12345.0.<filename>, which is just a copy of the original file. I...
